Castle and museums are winners in
fundraising coaching scheme
Some of Wales’s heritage organisations are being helped to take steps to secure
their future by an innovative training programme.
Staff from a North Wales castle, two museums and the National Library of Wales
will be awarded free executive coaching from fundraising experts in how to
improve their fundraising skills and help their organisations thrive over the long
term.
Bodelwyddan Castle near Llandudno, Storiel – formerly Gwynedd Museum & Art
Gallery – the National Library in Aberystwyth and Tenby Museum have been
selected to receive consultancy from the Catalyst Cymru - Heritage Fundraising
programme.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the initiative is run by a
partnership of third sector umbrella body Wales Council for Voluntary Action
(WCVA), the Welsh Government’s CyMAL: Museums Archives and Libraries
Wales, and Welsh heritage fundraising consultancy The Funding Centre.
The coaching – which would normally cost thousands of pounds - will help senior
staff to increase their confidence and knowledge to fundraise from private and
other income sources to sustain their organisation's future and be more resilient
and capable of securing diverse funding sources.
The award winners were chosen by a panel made up of: Eileen Kinsman and
Richard Roberts, Catalyst Cymru, Carol Whittaker, MALD, and Richard Tynen
and Johanna Shepherd of The Funding Centre.
‘Though successful fundraising is a key part of any organisation’s armoury, we
know that many heritage organisations are often unable to develop their
fundraising as they would like due a lack of expertise and resources,’ said
Catalyst Cymru Lead Project Officer Eileen Kinsman.
‘The executive coaching will allow executives and board members from these
organisations to benefit from free expert support to improve their fundraising
skills, enabling their organisations to thrive over the long term, and to create hubs
of fundraising excellence for the sector in Wales.
‘We’re looking forward to working with the successful organisations over the
coming months and taking their fundraising to a new level.’
Catalyst Cymru is part of a broader partnership initiative between HLF, DCMS
and Arts Council England, which aims to encourage private giving to culture and
heritage, and to build the capacity and skills of cultural and heritage organisations
to fundraise from private donors, corporate sources, trusts and foundations.
