Concert by Truro Choral Society: ‘A Child of Our Time’
Sir Michael Tippett’s A Child of Our Time premiered in London in
1944. Written as a response to the social injustices caused by
the Depression and the horrors that had been unfolding around
the world following the rise of Nazism, its anti-war message is,
of course, as relevant now as it was then. To perform this
emotionally powerful work, Truro Choral Society will be joined
by four superb soloists from the Royal Academy of Music and
the excellent Truro Symphony Orchestra. The choir will also sing
Rachmaninov's moving Bogoroditse Devo, conducted by James
Orford, and the pianist Paul Comeau will play Rachmaninov's
sublime Piano Concerto No 2 on the Cathedral's new concert
grand piano. Tickets £15 (U19s free) from the Hall For Cornwall

Murder in the Cathedral?
T'aint right, t'aint fair, t'aint fit, t'aint proper!
Betrayal, treachery and deceit will descend on Truro
Cathedral as our Murder Mystery Evening guests set
about solving the crime of the 18th Century. Tensions will
mount and suspicions will run high as the evening
unravels… was it Jud and Prudie? What about George or
Captain Blamey? Surely it could never be Ross and
Demelza…? Characters will be allocated to everyone in
advance so we look forward to welcoming you in full
costume. Evening includes a pasty tea, musical
entertainment and the chance to dance. Teams of are

World Premiere Performance of The Online Orchestra.
This premiere performance of The Online Orchestra will
connect three venues around Cornwall: Five Islands
School on the Isles of Scilly; Mullion School on the Lizard
peninsula; and Truro Cathedral. The Cathedral will house
a string group and a female vocal group, a brass section
will be in Mullion, and a flute section will play from the
Scilly Isles. The Online Orchestra is a research project
funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council
(AHRC) that asks how we can use the internet to give
children and amateur musicians who live in remote
communities around the country the same opportunities
to play in an orchestra as those who live in larger towns
and cities. This exciting event is in association with the
Philharmonia Orchestra and soloists are Philippa Mo and
Aleks Kolkowski. Visit www.onlineorchestra.com to find

to Christianity. Wandering the dramatic costal paths and
inland, they left their names to scores of villages,
hamlets, churches and wells, and contributed to the
shaping of Cornwall’s landscape and history. Johanna
