46th
ANNUAL GREAT LAKES CANCER NURSING CONFERENCE
General Information/Guidelines for Submission
The 46th Annual Great Lakes Cancer Nursing Conference sponsored by the American
Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division, will be held on October 15 & 16, 2013 at
the Somerset Inn in Troy, Michigan. In its effort to recognize nursing
innovation in education, research, and clinical practice, we will sponsor
poster/educational exhibit sessions on both days of the conference.
POSTERS/EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS:
Abstracts of posters/educational exhibits focused on clinical, organizational
and educational issues in oncology nursing are invited. Work in progress
accepted. Poster presentations will be displayed both days.
To present a poster/educational exhibit, it is necessary to apply by submitting
the requested abstract form (see www.cancer.org/greatlakesnursing). Abstracts
must be received by June 14, 2013 and should include the following:

Upon receipt, abstracts will be reviewed for compliance with above
instructions. A number will be assigned to assure anonymity.
Notification of acceptance will be June 30, 2013.
Abstracts must be received by June 14, 2013.
A promotional brochure will be distributed in July. It will include
information about the conference, hotel registration, and program details.
Members of the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division, Nursing
Committee will conduct review of abstracts.
The evaluator’s review criteria will be made available upon request.

IF SELECTED FOR PRESENTATION:
The American Cancer Society will cover the cost of conference registration for
one presenter.
POSTERS/EDUCATIONAL EXHIBIT SESSIONS:
The poster/educational exhibit session is a display presentation. Posters will
be on display for the duration of the conference. During this time, you will
display your material and provide commentary on the content of your work. This
will allow for an interaction between you and your colleagues. Various
posters/educational exhibits will be displayed concurrently in a room and
conference attendees will move about freely to question the various presenters.
In your acceptance letter, specific times will be outlined for you to staff your
poster/educational exhibit for each day.
Please bring your presentation mounted on a 4’ x 6’ poster board (board NOT
provided by ACS). You must also bring any mounting material necessary (easels,
etc.). This will also not be provided. (Please prepare all illustrations prior
to presentation.) Label your abstracts and include title and author at the top
of your poster surface. The lettering for this section should be typed in large
letters in the upper left hand corner. Your colleagues will be viewing your
presentation at three feet or more. Hand lettered material should contain heavy
lettering at least 3/8” high. Use shade block letter when possible. Typed
materials should be in bulletin (large) type. Charts, drawings and
illustrations might be similar to those you would otherwise use in making
slides, preferably more heavily drawn. AV materials are discouraged. If you
choose AV materials, you will not be guaranteed electrical outlets. You will be
provided with a table at the conference site. All presentations must be removed
within one hour of, but not before, the end of the scheduled presentation time.
