October
10/01 (Wednesday) Social 1: Penguin’s located at: University Boulevard East of Euclid (1st
Avenue)
- Come meet other psychology majors and members of Psi Chi while enjoying an ice
cream or frozen yogurt.
10/08 (Wednesday) Social 2: Mexican fiesta potluck dinner at: Bina Gold’s home at 6:00pm8:00pm
- Bring your favorite Mexican dish while enjoying good company and conversations. If
Mexican food isn’t your thing, feel free to bring something else you might enjoy. Please
e-mail Bina to let her know what you are bringing if you are to come.
10/11 (Saturday) Philanthropy 1: Ben’s Bells at Geronimo’s Plaza (located on University
Boulevard just East of Starbucks) at 10am – 3pm
- Create bells by molding beads or painting them. This organization is based on the
inspirational story of a mother who lost her son to an unexpected illness. Making these
bells symbolizes and perpetuates intentional kindness in hopes of changing the world.
- You must attend for at least one hour to receive your point. Note: Both points may NOT
come from attending ONLY Ben’s Bells events.
10/15 (Wednesday) Speaker 1: Chad Marchand from CJB at: TBD at 6:00pm
- Chad is a coordinator at CJB and will be speaking about the CJB program and what
the program is about and how you can become involved. He will also be happy to
answer questions!
10/18 (Saturday) Philanthropy 2: Tucson Audubon Volunteer Day at: TBD at 8am-12pm
- Volunteers will get a brief presentation of the society’s efforts to improve water
conservation, habitat value, and urban heat island effects of landscaping. They will then
take part in landscaping work along the west side of the historic YWCA (on the east side
of 5th avenue, south of University Blvd.)
- Please notify Molly of interest in participating by October 5.
10/19 (Sunday) Philanthropy 3: AIDSWALK on UA Mall: 10K run 7am or 5K walk 8:30am
- Join the Psi Chi team! 100% of proceeds stay in Tucson to benefit the Southern
Arizona AIDS Foundation programs and services; register online beginning next week – I
will send an email with directions.
- Registration costs $25 and includes a tee-shirt and food at the race-day EXPO
10/20 (Monday) Speaker 2: Dr. Sbarra at: TBD at 5:30pm
- Dr. Sbarra a Clinical Psychology professor here at the University of Arizona will be
speaking about the Graduate School Application Process. Bring a pen and paper and be
prepared to learn!
10/22 (Wednesday) Social 3: Movie night at Katie Gallardo’s home at 7:00pm-9:00pm
- Everyone brings their favorite movie and we will vote on what movie to watch. Come
enjoy some popcorn and treats and enjoy a good movie.
10/26 (Sunday) Philanthropy 4: Making Strides against Breast Cancer at Rillito the Downs: 5K
walk 8am
- Join the Psi Chi team! Proceeds benefit the programs and services of the American
Cancer Society fight against breast cancer; register online beginning next week – I will
send an email with directions.
- Registration is free! However, collection of donations and pledges is encouraged. If at
least 10 people are interested in purchasing tee-shirts at $10 a piece, we can order
customized Psi Chi ones (but I must have collected the money by October 1st).
November
11/01 (Saturday) Social 4: “After Halloween” Party! at Bina’s Home at 8pm-11pm
- Don’t retire your Halloween costumes just yet! Come and show it off one last time!
11/7 and/or 11/8 (Friday and/or Saturday) Social 5: Ice cats game at Tucson Convention
Center (located at 260 S. Church) at 7pm-??
- Come support the Arizona hockey team! Meet outside so you can get your tickets.
This event can only occur if you e-mail Bina confirming your attendance.
11/12 (Wednesday) Speaker 3: Wilene Lambert from SOAZ Advocacy at: TBD at 6:00pm
- Wilene will be discussing what the SOAZ Advocacy Center is and what it is like to
be involved with such a great program. She will also be encouraging those to get
involved and what it takes to be involved in the program. And of course, Wilene is
open to questions!
11/14 (Friday) Social 6: Game Night at Molly’s home at 6:00pm.
- Come for a night of some serious game playing and competition! If you have any
game suggestions/requests please let us know so we can plan ahead.
11/15 (Saturday) Philanthropy 5: CATwalk on the UA Mall: 10K run at 12p or 5K walk at
1pm
- Join the Psi Chi team! Proceeds benefit the Bobbi Olsen Fund for women’s cancer
research, education, and prevention; register online beginning next week – Molly will
send an email with directions.
- Registration is $25 and includes a tee-shirt, free drink and food, entry into prize
drawing, a valuable sponsor coupon book, and an opportunity to walk with UA athletes,
including the men’s basketball team.
11/17 (Monday) Speaker 4: Diana Sheldon at: TBD at 5:30pm
- Diana is the Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House. She will be
speaking of everything about the program, what her job entails, and a lot more. She
will also be answering questions!
Philanthropy 6 or 7: TBA American Red Cross Blood Drive
11/19 (Wednesday) Social 7: “Thanksgiving” Potluck dinner at: Katie Gallardo’s home at
6:00pm-8:00pm
- We all know that Psi Chi is one big psychology loving family! So who better to give
thanks with, than with your family here at school! Bring any food you would like, it
doesn’t have to be something you would necessarily see at a thanksgiving table.
Please e-mail me with what you are bringing!
11/23 (Sunday) Philanthropy 6 or 7: Chef for a Day at the Ronald McDonald House 12-1:30pm
- Prepare a lunch item (to serve 25 people). Bring your dish to a potluck-style meal (or
prepare it at the site) for families staying at the center while their children receive
treatment at nearby hospitals.
- Molly must know who is participating by November 9, so that varied dishes (entrée,
sides, desserts, drinks, etc) may be assigned.
December
12/6 (Saturday) Philanthropy 8: Community food bank at TBD at 9am-12pm
- Serve the Tucson community by helping the food bank prepare meals. Specific duties
may include moving boxes of food, preparing food, or serving food (depending on
individual preference).
- If interested, contact Molly by November 16.
On Your Own Time Philanthropy: Aviva’s Children’s Services
- Sew colorful bags to benefit foster children. The bags will be given to children to pack
up their belongings as an alternative to trash bags.
- At least one bag must be sewn (although more are welcome and encouraged).
- I will attach the pattern in an email to the listserv.

LISTSERV FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ACHIEVED THE STATUS OF A PSI CHI
MEMBER
We have carefully planned to insure the members and pledges get plenty of opportunities to
acquire all of their points. If you need to contact an officer regarding a certain event, the contact

Remember: Active members must attend any four of the events and one must be a Philanthropy.
Pledges must attend 2 Philanthropies, 2 Socials, and 2 Speakers after passing the initial
qualifications, in order to become a member of Psi Chi.
