BYLAWS OF THE
__________________________________________CHAPTER
OF THE
MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Article I – Name
The name of this organization is the _______________________________Chapter of the
Mississippi State University Alumni Association.
Article II – Statement of Purpose
This organization is formed to cooperate with the Mississippi State University Alumni
Association in fostering a spirit of dedication and loyalty among the graduates, former students,
and friends of Mississippi State University, and to encourage and coordinate activities for
graduates, former students, and friends in support of Mississippi State University.
Article III – Membership
All persons who qualify for membership in the Mississippi State University Alumni Association
may be members of this chapter.
Article IV – Officers
The officers of this chapter shall consist of a President, one or more Vice-Presidents, a Secretary,
and a Treasurer. The last two offices may be combined.
Article V – Duties of Officers
The President shall preside at all meetings at which he/she is present; shall exercise general
supervision over the affairs and activities of the chapter; shall appoint standing and special
committees and shall serve as member ex-officio of all standing committees; and shall be
responsible for the election of new officers.
The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President during his/her absence. He/she will
also serve as a member ex-officio of all standing committees.
The Secretary shall keep a record of the proceedings of all meetings of the chapter, as well as
send in the Chapter Event Report for each chapter meeting/ event to the Mississippi State
University Alumni Association Office; shall work closely with the Mississippi State University
Alumni Office in keeping an accurate and up-to-date list of Mississippi State alumni in the area,
as well as all marriages, obituaries, honors, and other items of interest concerning Mississippi
State alumni.
The Treasurer shall receive all moneys paid to the chapter and disburse money appropriately for
obligations of the chapter.
Article VI – Meetings
There shall be at least one meeting each year and at such more frequent intervals as the officers
may deem proper.
Article VII- Membership Contributions
Active membership in the chapter may be obtained by making an annual contribution to the
Mississippi State University Annual Giving Program or the Bulldog Club. Life Members are
considered active members of a chapter.
Article VIII – Representation
Each year there shall be officers and/or chapter board members to represent the chapter at the
Annual Business Meeting of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association at the
Leadership Conference and other business meetings of the Association which might be called.
Article IX – Amendment
These bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of those present at any meeting of the chapter.
This sample was prepared by the Alumni Office at Mississippi State University as standard for
all chapters. It may be amended to meet local conditions, as long as any changes are
consistent with the Bylaws of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association.
