ACTIVITIES: (Please provide a list of the activities students will perform in order to satisfy the HBA requirement): COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION This course is designed to assist EMTs working with Advanced Life Support (ALS)/ Paramedic level providers. Emphasis will be placed on basic and advanced assisting with airway and ventilation management devices and skills, identification of basic rhythm disturbances, IV therapy and assisting with other ALS skills. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Properly apply various types ECGs to a simulated patient. Interpret a static and dynamic ECG take from a standard three lead ECG. Assist an EMS provider in the intubation of a simulated patient. Set-up various equipment for a paramedic that will be used in the assessment and treatment of patients. INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will be able to properly interpret basic ECG strips. Students will demonstrate proficiency in place ECG leads. Students will demonstrate proficiency in setting up and monitoring an IV. OUTSIDE OF CLASS WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS: Title 5, section 55002.5 establishes that a range of 48 -54hours of lecture, study, or lab work is required for one unit of credit. For each hour of lecture, students should be required to spend an additional two hours of study outside of class to earn one unit of credit.
