Overview
Objective
Students will learn about Northeast’s states, state capitals, major
rivers, major lakes, mountains ranges and specific map features, by
look at and creating their own maps.
When given a map of the Northeast on ZOHO Notebook and colored
pencils, the student will be able to create a map of their own with the
Northeast's geographical features with 80% accuracy. After finishing
the map the students will create a journal compiling all
the information they learned on ZOHO Notebook pages, each student
will have their own page to create with pictures and any information
they find on the region with 100% accuracy.
Standards
5.3.3 Name and locate states, regions, major cities and capitals,
major rivers and mountain ranges in the United States.

Procedure




Discuss the Northeast region and point out the map and
features on ZOHO Notebook
Using the map and information the teacher has provided for
them on ZOHO Notebook, students will create their own map of
the Northeast using the materials provided
Students are to label their maps with the following: states
names, capitals, rivers, lakes, key, compass rose, and scale
Students will hand in map at the end of the lesson, and share
the ZOHO Notebook journal with the teacher
Students may use U.S. maps, maps of the Northeast, geography
texts, encyclopedias, and other library resources to find their
map information. Information on individual states in the
Northeast can also be found on the following Web sites.

Evaluation
The students’ maps will have to contain all the criteria that has been
pointed in the procedure.
