OCTOBER OUTING Our October campout was held at Timber Lake Resort in Mt. Carroll, IL. The leaves were just starting to turn color and wild turkeys roamed the campground. Members attending were: Browns, Feeces, Frosts, Gastels, Helms, Mary Morgan, Pearsons, Schmidts, Swinbanks, Watnes, and Wrights. Connetts joined us for supper Friday evening before leaving for TX on Wednesday. Also in attendance were our newest members, Ken and Glennie Barshinger from DeKalb! Members arriving Thursday for the hot dogs used their umbrellas most of the day as they moved from place to place but the food and conversations made up for the cool and rainy weather. Coaches were decorated with Halloween and fall decorations, and Feeces’ coach drew attention from all passers-by with their large inflatable moveable black cat on the top of their motorhome. The rest of the group arrived Friday, and the weather wasn’t much better, although the rain lessened and the colder weather moved in. We had a wonderful catered supper at the Oakville Country Club (recipes from the dinner are included on a separate sheet), followed by card Bingo in the new building that was ours (free of charge) for the weekend. After a tasty French toast breakfast Saturday morning the group carved pumpkins and decorated them. There were some very clever decorations and embellishments added to the basic pumpkins by the group! Winners were too hard to decide so winning names were drawn from a hat and winners received lottery tickets. Second and third prize winners didn’t have any luck but the first place winners (Feeces) won $20,000…unfortunately, it was a fake lottery ticket so no luck for them either. They were good sports about the bogus ticket! Saturday afternoon everyone was free to do whatever they wished. Mary, Wrights, and Frosts drove to get potatoes ($5.00/30 pounds), while others stayed inside to get warm. In the middle of the afternoon, we were surprised to see snowflakes! They didn’t last long, however, and the group sat around a campfire until Halloween Happy Hour, when many arrived dressed in costumes. They were all great (and Darrell (sexy cavewoman) and Jerry (a good-looking woman) already have their costumes for next year’s IL Indians and GNR!) and lots of fun! Gastels’ clever outfits of the “King and I” was a hit, as well as Mary’s flapper-type costume with her sexy orange fishnet stockings. We had a grim reaper (Delores), a caveman (Toby), a biker (Ruth), a redneck farmer (Leth), a witch (Joan), an outfit with a flowing cape (Geneva), and a shirt that read “This is my costume” (Joe). Following a delicious potluck supper Sat. night, the group enjoyed Pictionary, with some unusual guesses given. Our monthly meeting followed Sunday morning’s breakfast and Mary Morgan swore in new officers. The campgrounds for next year were announced and members signed up for their choices of months for wagonmaster duties. A list of potential members was also passed around and various members volunteered to phone some of the people on their lists to see if they would be interested in joining our group. It was a good weekend to end our camping season for the year! CANS Bob Helm presented $79.00 to the club as a result of the cans recycling projects he has been doing for some time. This is the last collection Bob is going to do. Thanks, Bob, for all the hard work and dedication you have put into this project for us! DECEMBER PARTY Our next outing is our annual Christmas luncheon on Dec. 6. This will be held in Dixon again this year. Additional information will be coming in the next newsletter. I also have a correction to make from last month’s newsletter. I said that individuals weren’t to bring gifts for other members. I should have written you could bring something for other members in addition to or in place of a card if you wish. In other words, we’re going to continue doing what we’ve always done but the members decided the club wasn’t going to pay for prizes for members that day. MEMBER NEWS Dave Wright had a bout with the flu but is feeling better now. Judy Schmidt was getting around much better than we had expected on her ‘new’ knee. The surgery was in mid-September and she’s walking without even limping! Way to go Judy! NOT SUCH GOOD NEWS It was announced at the October meeting that two couples have made the difficult decision to not join C.C. for another year. Paul and Donna Chambers stated they really enjoyed being members but because of their other commitments they can’t take part in most of our activities. They are also making plans to visit their son and daughter-in-law who now live in England. Donna stated that if they can’t be active members they don’t feel it’s fair to belong to the group. We will miss them and wish them well as they continue their travels in their Winnebago. Bob and Phyllis Stadtmueller have decided the time has come to end traveling in their motorhome, but it was a hard choice to make for them. They have been very active members in both WIT and C.C. through the years, acting as wagonmasters on several caravans and rallies, as well as taking charge of GNR volunteer committees. (If you or friends are in the market for a motorhome, theirs is up for sale. They have completely redone the interior and it’s a beautiful customized job!) Both of these couples are going to be missed by us. We know these were hard choices to make, and although we don’t like the choice you’ve made, we understand it and hope you’ll both stay in touch and let us know how and what you’re doing! WINNEBAGO MOTOR HOMES This is the perfect time to get those little annoying items repaired so your unit is ready to go in the spring. HUMOR CORNER A redneck family from the hills was visiting the city and they were in a mall for the first time in their lives. The father and son were strolling around while the wife shopped. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The boy asked, “Paw, what’s at?” The father, who had never seen an elevator, responded, “Son, I dunno. I ain’t never seen anything like that in my entire life. I ain’t got no idea’r what it is.” While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheelchair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small circular number above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to light in the revere order. The walls opened up again and a gorgeous, voluptuous 24-year-old blonde woman stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son, “Boy….go gitcha momma…..”
