Code: 2/04/87 Date of Last Revision: 7/01/93 BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY: Performs preventative maintenance and repair of automatic bowling lane equipment. TYPICAL JOB DUTIES: Performs preventative maintenance and repair of automatic bowling lane equipment (e.g., cleans, waxes and patches bowling pins, pinsetters, lanes and approaches; maintains and replaces conveyor belts, fuses, and indicator lights; repairs and adjusts ball returns, score tables, foul lights and telescores). Performs more complex repairs of automatic bowling lane equipment, (i.e., repairs limit switches, safety switches and three and four way celluloid switching mechanisms); maintains inventory records and preventative maintenance program; reports need for supplies and/or replacement parts to supervisor. Works at service counter; issues lanes, rents shoes, and checks out billiards equipment; sells retail items; collects monies, handles deposits, and maintains and operates cash register and bowling alley computer system; instructs patrons in the use of computerized bowling alley equipment. Issues, orders, maintains, and keeps records of bowling equipment and janitorial supplies, parts, and equipment. Maintains and repairs other building equipment such as electrical fixtures and food service appliances (e.g., coffee pot). May train and direct student employees or employees in a lower pay grade in maintenance and repair of bowling lane equipment, departmental operations and procedures, and safety regulations; may participate in training new employees. Assists in departmental bowling programs when requested by the Manager or his/her designee. Performs related duties as required. Bowling Lane Technician -- page 2 REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager or other designated supervisor WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to dirt, grease, chemicals, cleaning solutions, and loud noise; requires considerable physical effort to include frequent lifting of up to 60 pounds (e.g., pins), occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds (e.g., bowling equipment), and assuming awkward positions for extended periods of time; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays; requires on-campus travel. QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years general maintenance experience; bowling alley maintenance preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Skill in complex repairs of automatic bowling lane equipment (e.g., repair limit switches, safety switches, and three and four way celluloid switching mechanisms). 2. Skill in maintenance and repair of automatic bowling lane equipment. 3. Knowledge of appropriate safety practices. 4. Ability to demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 100 pounds. 5. Ability to operate a computer for data entry/retrieval and computerized cash register. 6. Ability to perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages). 7. Ability to count money and make change. 8. Ability to maintain accurate records. 9. Skill in interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g., to assist customers at service counter). 10. Ability to read (e.g., technical manuals), write (e.g., to maintain records), and accurately follow oral and written instructions. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Certified AMF pin spotter mechanic and certified lane technician or equivalent experience to be eligible for certification (i.e., training in mechanical and electrical maintenance and operation of mechanical and electrical tools and equipment).
