2015 TRICITY ARTISTS OPEN STUDIO TOUR FACT SHEET Date: November 14 & 15, 2015 Time: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day Location: 11 Studios throughout the Tri-Cities area. *The public is invited to the twelfth annual Tri-City Artists Open Studio Tour, Saturday & Sunday, November 14 & 15, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. *The event features 11 artists in their respective studios, showcasing their work. Artists include: -Linda Andrews works in fused glass and bronze, creating items from sculpture to wall pieces to jewelry…from functional to “beautiful to behold”. Her national award winning work has been shown and collected internationally for almost 3 decades. Fine “threads” of glass are the component of almost everything she makes. Some pieces are made entirely of these threads, while others use them as design components. A visit to her beautiful Red Mountain studio is truly a treat…and there is a lot to see! -Philip Harding is an artist with degrees in Architecture and Art History. He draws on this background as he creates abstract drawings, paintings and prints that incorporate a combination of organic and geometric patterns in space. Most recently he has been experimenting with new techniques to permit fine drafting with colored pencils to be used with acrylic paints on specially prepared canvases. He has also been working with thin LED lights to back light translucent prints thus creating effects normally associated with computer screens. Philip will have several prototypes on display at the tour. -Kathryn Kaye is a contemporary abstract artist, currently working with acrylic collage on canvas. Most paintings represent a landscape. The observer often finds an image they will connect with, or the image will remind them of an experience they had. She does not plan her paintings; they seem to emerge as the work progresses. The papers are hand-made, and purchased from various countries, including Japan, Taiwan, and China. They are dyed with acrylic, ink, or watercolor paint, and the papers are attached to the canvas with gloss medium, creating a hard, glossy surface. Kathryn will also exhibit a few floral and encaustic paintings. She enjoys using a variety of materials. -Consuelo Soto Murphy works in acrylic with a colorful palette and an expressive style. Her subjects range from Agricultural landscapes to local landmarks, like the Zillah Teapot Gas Station and Multnomah Falls. Consuelo shows throughout Washington and sells internationally. She was Washington Association of Bilingual Educators Artist of the Year for 2015. -Jan Nilsson works from diverse art training and deep roots in textiles. She has been concentrating on painting for about 10 years. From her studio above the Yakima River, her ink paintings are enhanced by the moody chemistry of the serendipitous dance of water and ink. The torn letters, fabric scraps or cancelled checks that make it into Jan’s painted mixed media constructions reflect past memories or historical scenarios. -April Ottey is a jewelry artist who works with objects from the natural world as well as metals. She started her career as a photographer but was drawn to the tactile nature of metalsmithing. With metalsmithing she is able to create work that combines textures, shapes and layers along with river rocks and other found objects. She focuses on the process of change as natural and manmade objects coalesce. She works out of her studio and teaches metalsmithing classes as well. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Northwest. -Kasia Gorski Schmoll has been painting for a number of years, but recently discovered oil painting and it is her medium of choice these days. Although she doesn’t limit herself to it, she prefers landscape work. In simple terms, she enjoys bringing the outdoors inside and wants to share that with her viewers. -Katherine Sylvan will be offering her dyed and surface-designed silks in apparel, various styles of silk scarves, and smaller stocking-stuffer items such as lavender sachets, necklaces made from vintage kimono fragments, and note cards. Also for sale will be award-winning interlacement silk wall hangings reflecting the themes of aerial views of agriculture in Eastern Washington and the Midwest. -Suzi Vitulli is an award winning and published watercolorist whose style is expressionistic and impressionistic with a feminine touch, but she’s working on it. She says she is captivated by the watercolor’s bright colors, movement, textures, and transparency. Her goal is to bring people into her paintings, let them look around and feel something wonderful and hopefully stay awhile. -Chris Walling began her watercolor career by taking watercolor classes in Richland Community School. She’s also taken workshops from Don Getz, Betty Carr, Jan Kunz, Carl Dalio, Carla O’Conner, Donna Watson, Stan Miller and others. From her “home” in watercolor, she’s moving into mixed media, where she can express her vision more richly. She’s recently branched out even further with her “Art Reimagined” series, where a new artwork is created using part of an old painting as its base. Part of the challenge of Art Reimagined is that the new work grows out of what new shapes and forms she sees in the old work—and she never knows where the painting is going to take her. Her Tri-Cities series of prints consists of six or more prints of Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland. They have been popular in the Tri-City area. -David Wyatt returns to the tour with more award-winning aerial photography at the Richland Airport hangar. Tri-ART for Giving honored David with a Juror’s Choice for his aerial Cable Bridge Sepia and a People’s Choice award for a dramatic aerial landscape of Wallula Gap. Another new piece - Ancient Flood Rhythmites - was selected for the Allied Arts annual juried show. Wyatt’s aerial work is in new shows at the Hanford REACH Interpretive Center and the Washington State Convention Center. These local artists have their work displayed throughout the country, as well as internationally. The tour provides the opportunity for the community to see and meet the artists personally.
