Application To Be a Research Assistant in Stanley’s Systems Neuroscience Lab
The Stanley lab studies the neural mechanisms controlling eating behavior and regulating body weight, typically using rats as
subjects. Research Assistants in the lab may be involved in all aspects of experiments, including stereotaxic surgery to implant
chronic brain cannulas, injection of neurotransmitters into the brain, measurements of the consequent eating behavior and body
weight change, collecting, summarizing and analyzing the data, histological analysis and assisting with any and all tasks. To be a
competitive applicant, you should have completed or should be currently enrolled in CBNS106, PSYC110, or an equivalent course.
The required time commitment is about 10-14 hours/week and most students continue in our lab for at least 3 quarters. After a
probationary quarter you can register for 2-4 credits per quarter, either S/NC or for a letter grade. If you are interested, please type in
the information below and email the application and your resume, if you have one, as attachments to Andy Tseng
(andy.tseng@email.ucr.edu) with a cc to Glenn Stanley (glenn.stanley@ucr.edu). We will contact you in the near future if you appear
to possess the qualities that we are looking for. Thanks!
