5 th Minsk International Seminar
Minsk, Belarus,
8-11 September 2003
Following the success of the four previous Minsk Seminars CIS Association "Heat Pipes" and Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer
Institute are pleased to announce the Fifth anniversary Minsk International Seminar "Heat Pipes, Heat Pumps, Refrigerators",
will be held in Minsk, Belarus from 8 to 11 September 2003.
General remarks
The key issue of these seminars are heat pipes - one of the remarkable achievements of heat transfer
engineering in 20th century. Heat pipes are unique in their capability to transfer heat over large distance
without considerable losses of energy, because their thermal resistance is negligibly small and mostly
independent of their dimensions and shape.
The second issue, which is important for the Seminar, is heat transfer enhancement in non-ozone
depleting heat pumps, refrigerators, thermal and gas stores (solid sorption, liquid sorption, vapourcompression). In many cases heat pipes can be advantageously employed in such devices.
Objectives
The main objective of the Seminar is to provide a greater understanding of the fundamentals, principles and
technologies associated with the design and operation of heat pipes, heat pumps and refrigerators. The Seminar will
also be a means of disseminating information concerned with resent research and development activities in the field
of heat pipes, heat pumps and refrigerators and related areas such as air conditioning, cryogenics, electronic cooling,
etc. It will provide a forum for persons involved in research, development, design and operation of heat pipes, heat
pumps, refrigerators and cooling and heating systems, and will also be of interest to staff in areas such as heat and
mass transfer science, energy management and pollution control.
The main subjects of the seminar are:






Fundamental research of the basic processes connected with physical phenomena in heat pipes, heat
pumps and refrigerators (heat and mass transfer in capillary systems and porous media with or without
chemical transformations, two-phase flow, interface phenomena, processes of adsorption, boiling,
evaporation and condensation);
Theoretical and experimental studies of heat pipes, capillary heat transfer systems and thermosyphons,
solid and liquid sorption heat machines;
Modelling of heat pipes (variable conductance, cryogenic, miniature/micro, CPL, LHP, pulsating,
revolving and rotating) and solid sorption devices start-up, steady-state and transient performances;
Scientific, space, industrial and domestic applications of heat pipes, heat pumps and refrigerators;
Materials problem in heat pipes, heat pumps and refrigerators;
State-of-the-art surveys of heat pipe and sorption machines (in different countries and different fields).
The SEMINAR is supported and sponsored by:

CALL FOR PAPERS
Papers will be assessed for presentation at the symposium on the basis of 600 word (2-3 pages
including figures) extended abstracts. They should not have been previously published. Selection of
papers eligible for presentation at the seminar will be based on review of the submitted extended
abstracts with regard to the general significance of the subject, quality of contents, originality of ideas,
clarity of descriptions, etc.
Papers will be scheduled for oral presentations on the basis of technical content and interest.
Seminar language
All papers, presentations, posters and courses will be in English, official language of the Seminar.
Technical exhibition
A technical exhibition of new equipment, models, and services will be held in parallel with the seminar. Companies
interested in taking part in the exhibition are invited.
