It’s hard to believe that this is the last full week of school! To finish up our Unit 6 text we will be reading the last two stories~ Our final phonics pattern is the ____sound (___,_____). **Please remind your child to use these sounds and other learned phonics patterns to decode new and unfamiliar words. Decoding is a skill that is very important in the development of good reading skills. Our final skills will include________and________. I have notice some nice progress in the children’s writing. Their thoughts and ideas are being expressed more clearly and they are excited to write stories and in their journals. Keep the progress going by writing at home often. Writing shopping lists, birthday cards and letters to friends, summer journals and the creation of a book with a pretend (fictional) character who is having a special adventure are just some of the ways to make writing fun over the summer recess. In Math we will continue to work on our facts and measurement. Remember to keep Math alive this summer by using real life experiences to teach and reinforce skills. Read a calendar page, a train schedule or a toy catalog to find the cost of a favorite item. Buy and pay for some ice cream, pack a basket with enough picnic items for everyone in the family. Use rulers, calculators and play card games too. This week we will write some final entres in our personal journal and our Frog Journal. We will have an assessment on the differences between frogs and toads and finish up with insects. The New York State maps found in the red NY folders will be sent home to look over. There will be an assessment on Wednesday. On June 14th we honor Old Glory! Flag Day is a day to think about what our flag symbolizes. Please send in the note and containers if your child is interested in the frog raffle. Calling all tuna cans!! Have a great week.
