I have attended various courses on molecular and statistical genetics and bioinformatics (taught modules: ‘Genetics of complex disease’, part of the Intercalating BSc in Human Genetics and ‘Genetic Data Analysis in Medicine’, part of the MSc in Bioinformatics; monthly NIHR BRC-MH Bioinformatics seminars) as well as lectures and seminars on current topics in psychiatric genetics research. This research output focused on the familial aggregation and SNP heritability of age at onset and episodicity in major depressive disorder while Genome-wide Association and Genetic Risk Profile Scoring analyses were also 3 applied. I am currently working on the familial coaggregation and genetic correlation of personality characteristics with clinical features of major depressive disorder (more details in Prof. C. Lewis’s attached reference letter). (2) Oct 2013- Jan 2014: Department of Psychological Medicine, under the guidance of Professor of Psychopharmacology and Affective Disorders Anthony Cleare. I attended various seminars and lectures organized by the Centre of Affective Disorders and actively participated in the regular meetings of the Affective Disorders Research Group (ADRG). I was acquainted with the Affective Disorders Unit (ADU) patient database, in which I focused on studying the physical comorbidity correlates of treatment-resistant depression. Apr-Oct 2013: Apart from academic/research activities, I was involved in part-time clinical work as an Honorary Consultant with the Mood, Anxiety and Personality Clinical Academic Group at the South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Trust. AFFECTIVE DISORDERS AND SUICIDE Since 2009, I have coordinated the development of clinical, educational and research activities of the Affective Disorders and Suicide Outpatient Service in Attikon Hospital. This unit focuses on careful assessment and clinical management of patients with complex, treatment-resistant or clinically unstable affective disorders or/and recurrent suicidal behavior. Patients are mainly referred from Inpatient Units, the Consultation/ Liaison Psychiatry Service or General Psychiatry Outpatient Clinics. It is additional staffed by a psychiatry resident and one or two psychologists and liaises with Social Worker, Psychotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services. More than 500 appointments per year are performed. C. NEUROPSYCHIATRY From 2007 to 2009, I contributed to the organization of clinical, educational and research activities of the Neuropsychiatry Unit in Eginition Hospital (Head: Assoc. Prof. T. Paparrigopoulos). This unit focuses on diagnostic assessment and clinical follow-up of patients with complex neuropsychiatric disorders. It works in close collaboration with the 1st Department of Neurology. Since 2009, I was involved in providing specialist care to neurology inpatients in Attikon Hospital in close collaboration with the Memory and Movement Disorders Outpatient Unit (Head: Prof. L. Stefanis).
