ASSIGNMENT 4: ONLINE DEBATE
DIRECTIONS:
As a part of this unit of study, all students will be required to participate in an online debate
on the topic ...
“Kevin Rudd was right to say sorry”
Having read and analysed the sorry speech in class and having conducted a live debate in
class students will be required to partake in an in an online debate. Students will be asked to
select a ‘for’ or ‘against’ position for the topic, and will be required to conduct research
(using references listed below) to support their arguments.
STEP 1 –Using the internet you will be required to conduct research on the impacts of Kevin
Rudd’s apology to the local and national community. Below is a list of sites that could be
useful in providing evidence for your online debate.

STEP 2 –Using the research you conducted you will need to argue your opinion for or against
the topic Kevin Rudd was right to say sorry. You are required to write 300-400 words to
summarise your opinion. You will need to ensure that you add in appropriate references to
support your opinion. The more references you use the stronger your argument!
STEP 3 – Once you complete your written piece you will be required to upload them onto
Google Groups. Log onto Google Groups, Click the discussions tab then click Kevin Rudd was
right to say sorry. Once you have uploaded the text click comment. As the debate will be
online all students and parents will have access to the debate.
