LITTER CONTROL OPERATOR MAJOR FUNCTION: This position performs skilled work in the operation of several types of mobile motorized and heavy equipment. Employees in this position are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a knuckle boom truck, pick-up truck, and various types of heavy equipment while removing litter and or dead animal carcasses from various locations within the county. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operates or drives a knuckle-boom loader truck, pick-up truck, and front end loader in the overall task of removing litter, cleaning up illegal dump sites, and picking up animal carcasses from various locations within the county. Visually identifies hazards to safe operation or problem areas and reports or corrects them. Work may be performed without direct supervision. Will use both hands simultaneously while standing or sitting; requires constant reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, bending, and climbing; frequent lifting, carrying, and/or working with (10) ten to (50) fifty pounds. Position requires the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Acceptable eyesight and hearing (with or without correction) to safely perform essential functions Fast manipulative skill in almost continuous use of machine or mechanical equipment Continuous standing, walking, or difficult working positions. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs related work as required. Performs light maintenance on equipment such as checking and adding fuel, oil, water, and air; changes tires, cleans and washes vehicles or equipment. Performs other task as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Responsible for the satisfactory and safe operation of equipment under all types of weather conditions on rough ground. Ability to perform physical work related to the position. Work may be performed without direct supervision. Majority of tasks are performed outdoors and very frequently in extreme weather conditions. Subjected to insects, noxious fumes, and constant noise. LITTER CONTROL OPERATOR PAGE TWO OF TWO TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum Experience: High School education or G.E.D. preferred and (3) three year's experience in vehicle and or equipment operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: Considerable knowledge of the practices applied to the safe and skillful operation and care of vehicles and equipment. Knowledge of the Laws and County Regulations pertaining to the operation of equipment. Ability to learn and abide by all traffic laws and County regulations pertaining to the safe operation of vehicles and equipment. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to communicate with fellow employees and the general public. Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns.
