JOB DESCRIPTION POST: Drink Wise, Age Well Trainer GRADE: £22,212 - £23,698 HOURS: 37 LOCATION: Drink Wise, Age Well Offices and delivering training in venues across Sheffield. ACCOUNTABLE TO: Prevention and Campaign’s Team Leader Drink Wise, Age Well: Rethink Good Health, an initiative funded by the Big Lottery Fund (BLF), will aim to influence and inform UKwide policy and practice in preventing alcohol misuse amongst adults aged 50 and over. Rethink Good Health has been brought about through developing a portfolio of individual projects which can be used to gather evidence of what works and forms a comprehensive communication and influencing plan to inform policy and practice UK wide. The programme is being delivered over a five year period and its impact evaluated over 7 years. Rethink Good Health will bring about the following outcomes: • • • Better informed policy and practice about preventing alcohol dependency in later life Improved health and well-being for people age 50 and over who are at risk of developing alcohol dependency The delivery of more effective services to prevent alcohol dependency amongst the ageing population. Addaction has established a UK wide consortium comprising of a number of partners; Royal Voluntary Service, Addiction Northern Ireland, Drug and Alcohol Charities Wales, International Longevity Centre-UK and University of Bedfordshire’s Substance Misuse and Ageing Research Team. Together they have successfully secured the £25 million fund named the Drink Wise, Age Well Programme. Five demonstration areas have been identified across the four UK nations to deliver the programme via an integrated, community-based intervention programme. Sheffield is one of those five demonstration areas and Sheffield Alcohol Support Service (SASS) have joined Addaction and RVS in partnership to locally deliver the programme. Key areas of programme delivery in each demonstration area will be ⁻ prevention and campaigning ⁻ skills development and training ⁻ building resilience ⁻ treatment intervention We are seeking a project trainer who will deliver the Training and Skills Development Work stream of our integrated programme at multiple community locations. Their role will be to co-ordinate and deliver training workshops to peers and volunteers, frontline staff and health and social care practitioners. The aim of the training is to assist professionals and peers to better recognise and respond to alcohol use in people aged over 50. Role Purpose: To co-ordinate and deliver the Drink Wise, Age Well learning and skills development workshops ensuring programme targets are met To review material regularly and ensure an evaluation framework is in place in order to comply with quality assurance To communicate with the UK wide programme training co-ordinator to ensure continuous review and development of training manuals To work closely with other colleagues delivering the operational work streams of the integrated programme KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To co-ordinate, plan and deliver learning and skills development workshops and continuous professional development for peers, volunteers, frontline staff and health and social care practitioners to enhance their knowledge and improved practice. 2. To network, publicise and secure training opportunities in multiple locations including the workplace, partner agencies and community settings 3. To build relationships with local stakeholders, commissioners and partner organisations and complete a training needs analyses of the workforce and community 4. To contribute to high quality written materials to support programmes and activities by ensuring that up to date research, information and good practice evidence is integrated into continuous professional and development activities and programmes. 5. To work with the Research team to ensure that effective evaluation approaches are used and information is fed back to participants, customers and commissioners of continuous professional development activity. 6. To develop and support communities of learning and practice, utilising web enabled approaches in addition to traditional systems. 7. To develop and maintain appropriate administrative and quality control systems, ensuring timely reports are made available to Head of Programme and Locality Manager 8. To assist and liaise with relevant staff and partners to aid in the production of monitoring and evaluation reports. 9. To agree personal performance objectives and targets and to participate in regular supervision. 10. To undertake continuing professional development and reflect on and review own trainer practice and learning 11. To represent SASS and the Drink Wise, Age Well programme externally as required, including presentations at seminars, conferences etc. 12. You will be expected to travel as part of this post. ANY ADDITIONAL DUTIES SASS is a busy organisation and the nature of our work means that some tasks can be unpredictable or, when staff are away, there is a need for others to cover some of their work. For these reasons it is expected that staff will show some flexibility in their work patterns. If a particular task becomes routine then the job description will change to reflect this. SASS also wants staff to have a reasonable work/life balance and would take steps to help staff maintain such a balance.
