Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution
Media Procedures for Chapter Media Contacts
Increasing the public awareness of the Sons of the American Revolution and our Patriotic, Educational and
Historical objectives can best be accomplished by the use media releases that highlight our many activities.
Enclosed are a number of sample media releases that will assist you, the Chapter Media Contact, in
developing appropriate releases for your chapter. These are examples only and should be customized as
necessary.
Some items that will help you:






Develop a list of news media contacts (names, titles, telephone, fax, email) in your general area.
Use photographs, but always remember to identify those in the photograph from left to right.
Submit via email attachment when possible, including digital photographs.
Use the examples enclosed and customize for your chapter, media contact name and address.
If the SAR logo moves, click on the icon and drag it back to the proper location and “save as”.
Invite the local Newsprint and TV Editor on special occasions to attend a chapter activity for first hand
reporting.
Media releases on chapter activities and awards will serve to promote fellowship and camaraderie within the
chapter while assisting in membership growth. Local newspapers will almost always carry these stories.
Chapters can also take advantage of these articles in state and national Americanism competition for chapter
awards as 10 points are awarded for each one-column inch of printed articles.
All of the above can be accomplished with a minimum of cost to the SAR, especially when the release can be
submitted by email attachment. The GASSAR Publicity Committee will handle Georgia Society media releases.
When media releases are submitted, be on the lookout for the printed material and provide a copy, where
possible to the Publicity Chairman for inclusion in the Historical record of the Georgia Society.
