Endangered Species/Evolution Project
Organize your project and research in a binder or presentation portfolio with the
following divisions. The requirements for each section are listed below. In
addition to the portfolio, you will summarize your findings and present them to the
class on May 24. You will need a colorful, easy to view poster to accompany your
presentation.
Section
1. Description
2. Classification
3. Habitat
4. Nutrition
5. Reproduction
6. Role in
ecosystem
7. Threats and
solutions
8. specific
adaptation
Requirements
* Describe your organism’s color, shape, size, and
unusual characteristics/adaptations
* Scientific name and common name
* Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family
* Other related organisms
* Which biome is it found in?
* What are the main characteristics of this biome?
* what is the distribution of organisms within the
biome – try to include a map
* describe any migration patterns
* How does your organism obtain energy?
* How is food stored?
* How often does the organism reproduce?
* What is the gestation period?
* How many offspring?
* How long after birth do parents care for offspring?
* producer, herbivore, omnivore, etc
* describe other organisms in the same ecosystem
* is this organism part of a symbiotic relationship?
* What threats does your organism face in its
ecosystem?
* What is being done to protect your organism?
* What solutions do you have?
* describe/explain one trait this organism has that
improves its fitness in its environment
* from an evolutionary standpoint, describe how this
adaptation may have become a common trait in this
species (selection pressures? What purposes does
this adaptation serve the species?)

11. Work Cited
* Describe the Endangered Species Act
* Would Darwin have supported this Act? Why/why
not?
* Assuming there are environmental pressures strong
enough to result in an evolutionary adaptation – what
would this new adaptation be?
* How would your organism change over time?
* Use evolutionary terms to describe this scenario
* You must use at least 4 sources
You will also be graded on the following:
