2013 County Championship, Mid-Silver Trophy, Bronze Championship & Lucy Davies Trophy at Henley GC – April 9 On a damp and increasingly cold and murky day 39 ladies played at Henley Golf Club in the qualifying rounds of the County Championship (15 over 36 holes) and Mid-Silver Championship (24 over 18 holes). The conditions were reflected in some of the scores although Jane Tavinor from Oxford Ladies brushed them aside and scored a magnificent nett 69 to win the Mid-Silver scratch prize and the Coronation Silver Medal for the best nett score in the morning out of all 39 ladies. Jane qualified for the knock-out quarter-finals for the Mid-Silver along with Jan Glover, also from Oxford Ladies, Meg Ashby (Huntercombe), Sue Russell (Frilford Heath), Helen Cross (Kirtlington, Penny Kendall (Frilford Heath), Muriel Quinsac (Henley), and Loretta Tonna from Studley Wood. In the afternoon Millie Anderson, one of the County’s junior players from Badgemore Park, shot the best score of the day, a nett 68, which won her the 36 hole handicap prize on countback from Sarah Arnold from Henley. Sam Round, the current holder of the Championship and an affiliate member, won the 36 hole gross score with 159, only one shot ahead of Cara Gainer (Frilford Heath), another of the County’s junior players. The top eight qualifiers go through into the Championship, and joining Millie (gross 168), Sarah (gross 160), Sam and Cara are Kate Evans (gross 160) and Annie Gowing (gross 162), both from Frilford Heath,and Sally Woolven (gross 162) and Maggie Buffin gross 166), both from Henley. The next seven best scores qualified for the Lucy Davies Trophy – these are Karen Pollard (gross 168), Sarah Hillas (gross 170), Jane Atkin (gross 169) and Jocelyn Brown (grosd 195) all from Henley, Maggie Findlay from Oxford Ladies (gross 171), Imogen Vessey from Chipping Norton (gross178) and Sally Ayres from Frilford Heath (gross174). These 23 ladies will be joined by the eight qualifiers from the Bronze Championship tomorrow, 10th April, for the quarter-finals. This year the County introduced a scratch Senior County Champion Trophy for players of 50+, to be found from the first 18 holes of the Championship. This was won by County Captain Kate Evans with a gross score of 80 on count back from Sally Woolven.
