The meeting is being held at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. On 12 October 2012, 'Birmingham: its people, its history' opens at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The galleries are supported by a £8.9m Heritage Lottery Fund grant. In the iconic new 'Birmingham, its people, its history' galleries visitors can explore the city's global heritage from medieval times and the industrial revolution, through to the World Wars - to the technology-led life of the 21st century. Henrietta Lockhart – Curator of History, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery On 12 October 2012, 'Birmingham: its people, its history' opens at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Henrietta, who has been working on these galleries for 4 years, will describe some of the challenges and opportunities that the project has presented. Liaison with contractors, consultation, community engagement, narrative and interpretation, object selection and conservation have all provided both moments of exhilaration and times of stress, and the project has been delivered against a background of constant organisational change. 11:10am Movie Magic: Interpreting the Restoration of an Art Deco Cinema Sarah Fellows – Regal Heritage Access Officer The Regal Cinema in Tenbury Wells was closed for a year whilst the Heritage Lottery Funded restoration work went on behind closed doors to restore its art deco glory. Despite its prominent position in the town both geographically and in the hearts of the local people, keeping the community engaged and interested in the project during this time presented some interesting challenges. Regal Heritage Access Officer Sarah Fellows talks about some of the events and projects she has delivered over the last ten months to create and maintain that connection with the inaccessible building, from behind the scenes tours and social media presence to the final reopening event in July this year. 11:40am How did we do? Evaluating the Southeast Leicestershire Treasure Project. Zara Matthews - Local Heritage Officer (Harborough Museum), Leicestershire County Council. The Southeast Leicestershire Treasure Project aims to purchase, conserve, interpret, display and promote the Hallaton Treasure – an internationally A Registered Charity, No 225103 important collection of Late Iron Age and Roman objects including over 5000 Iron Age and Roman coins and a silver-gilt Roman cavalry helmet found in 2000 by a local community archaeology group. The project included the creation of a new gallery at Harborough Museum and the complex 9 year conservation of the Roman helmet. Jane Alexander – Chedham’s Yard Project Manager There are all sorts of things that can go wrong with a £1.1M restoration and new build project but Chedham's Yard had more than its fair share.
