5JSC/Editor/RDA/Appendix E September 26, 2005 To: Joint Steering Committee for Revision of AACR From: Tom Delsey, AACR3 Editor Subject: Draft of RDA Appendix E – Presentation of Descriptive Data Related documents: 5JSC/AACR3/I 5JSC/AACR3/I/ALA response 5JSC/AACR3/I/CCC response 5JSC/AACR3/I/LC response 5JSC/AACR3/I/Discussion guide/Sec follow-up/Rev 5JSC/LC/1/Rev 5JSC/LC/3 5JSC/Sec/4 Attached is a partial draft of RDA appendix E (Presentation of descriptive data). The draft has been prepared as a working document to facilitate the review of constituency responses to the December 2004 draft of AACR3 Part I, and to place that review in the context of plans for developing RDA. The partial draft covers ISBD presentation only. The order of elements set out in the table under E.1.1 is derived from the current edition of ISBD(G). For area 3, the order of elements has been derived from the current editions of ISBD(PM), ISBD(CM), AND ISBD(CR), respectively. The base text for instructions on prescribed punctuation (E.1.2), “In” analytics (E.1.3), and multilevel description (E.1.4) was derived from the December 2004 draft of AACR3 Part I. The base text has been edited to incorporate revisions proposed in the constituency responses to 5JSC/AACR3/I and subsequently agreed to by all constituencies, as per the table of responses prepared by the Secretary of JSC (5JSC/AACR3/I/Discussion guide/Sec follow-up/Rev). The draft text has been annotated as follows: references to corresponding rules in AACR2 have been inserted following relevant instructions thus: [1.0E1] references to proposals submitted by constituents have been inserted thus: <LC/1/revA1.0B> (the number following the document designation refers to a specific rule proposal within the document) references to 5JSC/Sec/4 (Punctuation within elements) are indicated thus: <Sec/4A1.1A2> (the number following the document designation refers to a specific rule identified within the document) references to line numbers in the table of responses to the December draft of AACR3 Part I (5JSC/AACR3/I/Discussion guide/Sec follow-up/Rev) have been inserted thus: <line 139> The references to the response table cover all lines that refer specifically to instructions or definitions included in the draft of the appendix 5JSC/Editor/RDA/Appendix E A check mark following a line reference indicates that all the constituencies agreed on the proposed revision and that revision has been incorporated into the draft text. In cases where all constituencies agreed but the revision has not been incorporated (because of lack of clarity, a related change in RDA, etc.), the line reference is given without a check mark. References to 5JSC/Sec/4 have been inserted following instructions from the December 2004 draft of AACR3 Part I that have been incorporated into the section on prescribed punctuation (E.1.2). References to rules containing instructions relating to punctuation within an element identified in 5JSC/Sec/4 that are not incorporated into the instructions under E.1.2 have been inserted following the caption for the relevant sub-section of E.1.2 as an indication that the rule identified in 5JSC/Sec/4 should be reviewed to determine whether the instructions should be treated as prescribed punctuation or as punctuation within an element (to be incorporated into the instructions in RDA Part I). 5JSC/Editor/RDA/Appendix E APPENDIX E PRESENTATION OF DESCRIPTIVE DATA Contents E.0 Purpose and scope [To be added] E.1 ISBD presentation E.1.1 E.1.2 E.1.3 E.1.4 Order of elements Prescribed punctuation “In” Analytics Multilevel description E.2 OPAC displays [To be added] E.3 [To be added] E.1.
