The fall run is on and the South Dakota State Brand Board would like to remind
everyone that an ownership inspection of cattle, horses and mules is required prior to
their sale, slaughter or removal from the South Dakota Livestock Ownership Inspection
Area. This area includes all South Dakota counties located west of the Missouri River.
Any livestock shipper within the livestock ownership inspection area wanting livestock
inspected shall notify the inspector at least 24 hours in advance of the inspection and
allow the inspector reasonable time to provide the inspection.
Enforcement checkpoints will be set up at various points along the border of the
livestock ownership inspection area to check for violations of the brand laws.
