Session information Push the Boat Out – Robin Nicol and Robin Paris Making the most of your open day. Topics covered will include, identifying your target audience, advertising and what happens on the day. Vessel Stability – Vaughan Marsh and Rod Smith The stability of vessels is something that all Cruising and Shorebased Instructors should now be covering with their students. In this workshop we share ideas on how to deliver this sometimes daunting subject to students, including some practical methods. Safety Boat – Rachel Andrews Rachel Andrews, the Powerboat Chief Instructor will be delivering a session on running Safety Boat Courses at your Club. The Green Blue – environmental activities for instructors Kate Fortnam, Environmental Outreach Officer at The Green Blue leads a practical workshop on a variety of activities that instructors can deliver as supplementary or no wind/foul weather alternatives. These interactive activities are aimed at increasing the participants’ awareness on how their boating impacts the environment, and how they can minimise these impacts. Inspectors Update (Coach Assessors, Powerboat Trainers and Windsurf Trainers only) Update for Inspectors for Training Centres, discussing common issues and any changes to the process Positive Coaching Scotland – Sport Scotland Our partners at Sport Scotland will be running a session on ways for coaches and instructors to generate and capitalise a positive environment for our sailors. This will look to help to increase participation and performance. Chart Plotter – Vaughan Marsh and Rod Smith An update on the Chart Plotter and information about using it whilst teaching. Race Course Set-up – David Frame From club and class racing through to the Olympic Games accurately setting Trapezoid race courses has thrown up some challenges! Providing the best quality of racing with accurate courses is important to the development of our sailors if they are to reach the World stage. This workshop will guide you through the science and art of mark laying with a hands on practical workshop involving setting up your own trapezoid race course using a handheld GPS. (GPS provided but feel bring your own if you have one!) Delivering Stage 4 and the advanced modules This workshop will explore what is needed to run an advanced module and look at ways to structure the programme. Navionics Lance Godefroy from Navionics UK is coming to talk about the products available Child Protection Liza Linton will give an update on RYA Scotland’s Child Protection Policy and procedures. This is a great opportunity to bring any questions or concerns you have about the topic and to ensure your club is following the correct guidelines.
