George F. Toland
George F. Toland, 76, 908 Highland, died Sunday, March 15, 1992, as Asbury-Salina
Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Toland was born Sept. 25, 1915, at St. John. He had lived in Salina since 1946,
moving from Minneapolis.
He taught biology in Salina for 31 years, after teaching for eight years in other Kansas
communities and one year in Compton, Calif. He was a member of the Nature
Conservancy; Kansas Natural Resources Council; National Resources Defense Council;
American Forestry Association; Kansas Herpetological Association; Sahilak; local, state
and nation retired teachers associations; and the University United Methodist Church.
A son, Timothy, died in 1945.
Survivors include his wife, Ray of home; two sons, Rick of Topeka and Fred of
Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter, Terri Nitsch of Mesa, Ariz.; a half-brother, John
Toland of Blue Springs, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at University United Methodist Church, the
Rev. Terry Turner officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the St. John city cemetery.
Memorials may be made to University United Methodist church or the American
Heart Association.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Geisendorf-Rush Smith Funeral
Home, 401 W. Iron, and until the service Wednesday at the church.
