Frequently Asked Questions When and why was the Career Staff Association started? o The Career Staff Association officially began in 2001 under the name of Career Staff Council. o After Dr. Shugart’s arrival in 2000, he and Dr. Stan Stone discussed the need for an organization that would represent the Career Service staff, provide Career staff representation in collegewide committees and Councils, and provide a direct voice to the upper administration. What is the Career Staff Association (CSA)? o The CSA is made up of ALL part-time and full-time Career Service employees at Valencia. o Each campus/center has a CSA with a Chair, Chair-Elect, and a Secretary or Secretary/Treasurer. o The purpose of the CSA is to promote the welfare of Career Service employees at Valencia and the College as a whole, as well as to open lines of communication between Career staff members and the College. o Regular meetings are held so that CSA officers can work with Career staff members to address business at the campus level and plan events and activities that encourage personal and professional development. o CSA officers also serve as members of the Collegewide Career Staff Leadership Association (CW-CSLA). What is the Collegewide Career Staff Leadership Association (CW-CSLA)? o The CW-CSLA is comprised of officers from each campus/center CSA. o The CW-CSLA meets bi-monthly to discuss any collegewide or campus/center business brought forth by CSA officers, to collaborate on ways to accomplish our goals, and to provide a collective voice for ALL Valencia Career staff members. o CW-CSLA members also participate in leadership activities and serve as representatives for ALL Career staff members on the College Governing Councils and other Committees as requested.
