Donald and Barbara Smalley Graduate Research Fellowship
Gender and Women’s Studies
Spring and Summer 2013
The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies will award a Graduate Research
Fellowship in the amount of $12,000 for the period of January 15 to June 30, 2013. The
fellowship carries a tuition and fee waiver.
The recipient of the Smalley Fellowship in Gender and Women’s Studies must be:
1) A Ph.D. student in good standing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours for spring and 4 hours for Summer II.
2) A graduate minor in Gender and Women’s Studies.
3) Currently working on a dissertation which shows promise of making an important and
original contribution to the field of Gender, Women’s, and/or Sexuality Studies.
Preference will be given to applicants who are ABD and who are in enrolled LAS
Programs, but students from other colleges are eligible to apply.
The recipient of the Smalley Fellowship will give a public lecture based on her/his
dissertation research.
