Seeking expressions of interest for Endocrinology and Renal
Physician specialist Outreach services to Taree NSW
RDN is seeking an Endocrinologist and Renal Physician interested in providing outreach in
response to identified services gaps in Taree NSW.
Program overview and purpose




The NSW Rural Doctors Network’s (RDN) Outreach Program is funded by the Australian
Government Department of Health.
A major aim is to improve access to medical, allied health and nursing services for Aboriginal
communities in rural and urban areas through the development and support of outreach clinics.
The delivery of outreach services is achieved in partnership with local health organisations
including Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and Medicare Locals. In addition,
RDN holds an MOU with the Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council. RDN works with
these partners to ensure services are well planned and supported. This includes provision of
local orientation and cultural training for outreach providers, ongoing management of visiting
services and coordination with other health providers in the region.
To enhance the long-term sustainability of services, the preferred model of care is a ‘One Stop
Shop’ providing a multi disciplinary team services for Diabetic and Renal patients.
Outreach services




Specialist outreach will be provided from rooms at Biripi Medical Centre
Fortnightly clinics (2 consecutive days).
Multidisciplinary team including; Exercise Physiologist, Dietician, Chronic Care Nurse, Diabetes
Educator, Psychologist, AHW and GPs.
Clinic activity will include provision of specialists clinic working within a culturally appropriate
framework with the support of a multidisciplinary team.
Support provided







Remuneration is offered at the NSW Health Senior Specialist VMO rate, alternatively, bulk-billed
consultations are an option.
Compensation for travel is provided, including fuel, accommodation, and absence from practice.
Time undertaking local orientation and cultural training is supported and resources are provided.
Clinic administration, patient bookings and recall are provided by host rooms.
Local GPs who manage Aboriginal patients will refer to outreach clinics.
Support from nurses and Aboriginal health workers.
Access to RDN’s telehealth infrastructure is available to enhance outreach.
