Wheeler Robinson Flat Research/Professional Development Proposal Suggested Deadlines: Due to the likelihood of multiple requests for the flat during the same time periods, it is suggested that proposals be submitted no later than six months in advance and ideally one year or more in advance. Requests for stays of one week or longer must be submitted as early as possible. Note: Subject to the priority constraints listed on the “Use of the Faculty Flat” overview document, time slots will be allocated to approved projects on a first come first served basis. I. The following lists set out some possibilities, but the lists are not intended to be exhaustive. Research Projects: Research for an academic paper or book using the libraries of Oxford University. Archival research in Oxford or in the UK in general. Creation of a publication or conference paper. Work on a larger project (book, piece of music, screenplay, etc.). Data collection for research projects. Conversation or collaboration with Oxford faculty members in your discipline regarding a specific idea or project. Professional Development Projects: Pedagogical research. Investigation of the Oxford tutorial method. Access to cultural experiences (museums, architecture, the arts, music, etc.) relevant to your discipline. Biographical research concerning a key figure in your discipline. Attendance at lectures or conferences in your discipline. New course constructions. Examples of Unsuccessful Proposals: Sightseeing or other cultural experiences that are disconnected from any clearly defined disciplinary or pedagogical enhancement. Personal development without any clearly defined disciplinary or pedagogical enhancement (e.g. taking a financial planning seminar in London that has no relationship to your discipline or teaching).
