FAT CATTLE can be moved to a Red /slaughter only market WITHOUT pre-movement testing.
6 Day Rule does NOT apply
STORE CATTLE must be pre-movement tested and the 6 Day rule applies (Pre-movement test lasts
60 days)
4 YEAR TESTING PARISHES
Cattle can move to any market without pre-movement testing

STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS will be held on SATURDAYS
We believe that this will be in everyone’s best interest and look forward to continuing to provide a
complete marketing service to all our clients.
The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB
breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:
a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30
days
b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from
your local Defra Animal Health Office.
Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to
update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

SHEEP EID
The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st
January 2010

Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a
single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)
These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list
all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.
Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic
These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving
to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read
and recorded on behalf of the keeper.
Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information
within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding
Holding Registers:
1.
ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include:
farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31 st December
2009.
The recording requirements include:
 All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied
 All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

A reasonable entry of OTMS on offer today met another very fast trade with quality very
thin on the ground.
John Ashton sold Limousins steers to 216.5p - £1039.20 and 212.5p - £1071.00. Gary
Hancock sold Blue heifers to 207.5p - £1047.88. Many more urgently required for next sale

Trade was as dear as ever with loads more customers than cattle.

Another Record Broken - who would have thought we would see nearly 1,000
sheep on a Saturday?! We have traded some this week, with Wednesdays
1,374 and todays = 2,356!! Who said Newark isn’t a Sheep Market?!
SPRING LAMBS 473 SOLD: SQQ 220.44p/kg – Overall Average 219.46p/kg
On paper a trade very in line with Wednesdays, but there would be some leaner lambs
today and they all go into the figures. Good to see lambs here on a Saturday – keep them
coming!!

Another remarkable entry of young bulls on offer today and some marvellous runs of real
top draw bulls forward. Today however, we saw run after run of quality bulls that could
have done with more finish.
Trade today was again very fast with only the very lean bulls harder to sell.
Top bull today was sold by Newark regular John Holmes, Plumtree who sold home bred
Blues at 250.5p - £1643.26 and 235.5p - £1874.58.
Mike, Jane, Charlie and David Wills (t/a Upper Coton Farms) sold Limousins to 247.5p £1311.75 with others at 246.5p (twice), £1296.59 and £1254.69. Messrs J & R Sims Brothers

sold Limousins to 223.5p - £1765.65, Mr B Lewis sold Limousins to 214.5p, Gerald and Will
Ketley, Essex sold Blues to 199.5p - £1342.64 and 198.5p - £1431.19.
Clive Goulsbra sold Blues to 201.5p - £1527.37, David Duffin, Melton Mowbray sold
Limousins to 197.5p – £1627.40.
A real storming trade with best finished U grade or better cows 180p plus with R grades
168-178p and O+’s 157-167p and –O’s 144-154p.
Best fed Friesians today 146-156p with P+ cows 135-145p and leaner Holsteins 122-130p.
OTM clean cattle were again exceptionally well sold with Mr B Lewis, Northampton selling
Charolais heifers to 234.5p - £1854.90, Robin Higgott sold Limousin heifers to 226.5p £1354.47, Arthur Norcross sold Limousins to 222.5p - £1408.43 and Messrs Manor Farms
sold Limousins to 221.5p - £1519.49.
