Student Rankings – Year 8
Rankings for Year 8 students are calculated on the marks achieved in the
two across the year assessment tasks (see below) held at the end of
Semester 1 and Semester 2
Student Semester Report Achievement Grade,
The reported student Achievement Grade, is decided by the class teacher.
The grade is based on everything done by the individual student during the
semester including academic work (across the year assessments, class tests,
quizzes, bookwork etc), class involvement, liturgical involvement and
application and reflection of Christian values. Individual teachers will ensure
allocated grades are compatible with the Common Grade Scale

Syllabus Outcomes to be assessed:
Student’s ability to……..
 Value those signs, symbols and rituals which guide and enrich their own
and other people’s lives.
 Describe sign, symbol and ritual, the nature of the sacraments, and
rituals associated with the sacraments of initiation.

Classify examples of sign, symbol, ritual and sacrament.
With specific reference to:
 Signs and symbols in everyday life and in religions
 How rituals mark special moments in human experience
 The combination of elements which comprise the structure of various
rituals
 Catholic teaching on the sacraments
 The Sacraments of initiation
Term 4 – People and Ministries in the Church
Syllabus Outcomes to be assessed:
Student’s ability to……..
 Value the variety of practices, activities and people in the Church
 Describe the range of activities and people involved in ministry in the
Catholic Church
 Explore possible ways of being actively involved in the mission of the
Church
With specific reference to:





Larger groups and their roles.
The range of activities and services carried out in the local Church
The variety of ministries and functions within the Church
The distinction between ordained ministry and other forms of service in
the Church
The lives of people who have carried out ministries and functions within
the local Church and overseas.

The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content
and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content
and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition,
