Research Presentation Assignment Throughout the semester, you have been extensively researching a topic which interests you and has some impact on society. Through the process, you have developed a sense of the discussion which surrounds your topic and have taken a stance on the issue, creating a portfolio which demonstrates both the development of your research and the development of your writing. Typically, this type of academic research culminates in a conference presentation given to your peers and/or publication. For this assignment, you will present your research, findings, and stance to the class. This is your opportunity to share your topic and position with people outside of your instructor. You will create a 10 minute presentation which gives a brief overview of your final research paper and portfolio. During the presentation, keep the They Say/I Say techniques in mind as you present. Give your audience a sense of the debate and then present your thesis and view, providing evidence which supports that view. I encourage you to also consider how you want to engage your audience in your presentation. Ask the class to participate through questions and discussion. This will help maintain your audience’s attention and interest. You are welcome to use power point presentations, handouts or any other visual aids. You will be graded on how well you present the materials. Do you give the class a clear understanding of the topic and your position within the argument? Do you provide support for your claims? How well do you engage the audience? Make sure your presentation is clear and interesting. Presentations will be conducted the last week of classes, and you must submit all additional materials and presentations to the portfolio dropbox the day of your presentation.
