FIRE, DISASTER DRILLS, AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLAN
All Principals
Ibrahim Mashhour, Director of Student Services
All fire, disaster drills and Emergency Management Plan drills and practice are to be recorded on
the enclosed form and returned to my office at your earliest convenience following the drill.
State law and Board policy requires a minimum of eight (8) fire drills per school year, two (2)
disaster drills, and a minimum of one (1) Emergency Management Plan practice per school year.
Only one drill can be held each month, so your drills must begin in September. The Dearborn
Fire Marshall will be visiting schools and inspecting documentation on the frequency of fire
drills. Please keep this information up to date and accessible to fire department personnel.
As per Fire Marshall recommendations based on records from the past year:
1.
2.
3.
Conduct as many fire drills as possible during the fall and then catch up in spring
when the weather is mild.
Conduct the first disaster drill as early as possible within the first month of school.
The second disaster drill may be scheduled for March or April.
Not to combine two drills in one day.
The Emergency Management Plan practice information needs to be reported to the state schoolinfrastructure-database (SID) at the end of every school year. The attachment contains items we
need to collect from all schools for that report. Use the attached form to record your
drills/practices as conducted and send us a copy of this form by the 1st week of June. (No need
to send monthly reports).
