Visitor Services Manager Job share post: 28 hours per week National Mining Museum Scotland receives 60,000 visitors a year and is a VisitScotland 5star visitor attraction, and a multiple award-winning museum. Situated in the village of Newtongrange at the former Lady Victoria colliery, the museum houses an accredited national collection showing Scotland’s proud industrial heritage, and is a great day out for all the family. The Visitor Services Department influences every aspect of the visitor experience at the museum and works closely with curatorial, education, catering and other functions to ensure the delivery of high quality experiences to our visitors. The department is directly responsible for all retail operations, guiding and events. The department is also an essential partner in the marketing, maintenance and administrative functions of the museum. Responsibilities: Recruitment and training of all reception staff and guides Providing 5-star excellence in customer service Managing staff rotas Cash handling and banking Managing group bookings Event ticketing Coordinating marketing and education events Providing essential visitor figures and financial reports Staffing and maintenance of the Mini Miners’ soft play and interactive zone Security and keyholder Museum Shop: Display and merchandising Stock control Buying Product development of NMMS branded merchandise Development of online shop The post holder is a member of the Senior Management Team and reports to the Director. Working hours: this is a job share post covering 28 hours per week including, on occasion, one day a week liaising with the existing Visitor Services Manager who works 21 hours per week. Days of work are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday, although flexibility is essential to ensure optimum cover. Visitor Services Manager specification: Essential: Excellent communicator Good IT skills and experience of working with Outlook, Word and Excel Social media skills Proven staff management Retail management Creative, inspiring and flexible Good reporting skills Desirable: Heritage or visitor attraction experience This is a permanent post, and is subject to review after an initial three month contract. The entitlement for annual leave for this post is 21 days per annum pro rata, based on a 35 hour week, plus time off in lieu for 11 public holidays pro rata. The Museum will be closed between Christmas and New Year, and annual leave must be taken during this period.
