Isibel: go ahead SHeMABruce: meaning...not Alert: An admin left the room: Isibel possible in such a limited setting eliana batyah: 1 janice64: 1 SHeMABruce: true SHeMABruce: oh BEHANU: i wow. That rather infrequent feeling I felt then occurs constantly now as I read and study this stuff. I wish more people could understand how truly valuable the material is. janice64: are we reading tonight richard 9: hello SHeMABruce: Steinsaltz is considered a true "sage" of our time. BEHANU: Tonight we are doing a little supplemental reading and discussion from another text which is a commentary on the Tanya, another critical text. richard 9: isebel how tall are you? janice64: oh ok behanu richard 9: im nin the wrong room A D A M_3: richard..... richard 9: sorry this is a study SHeMABruce: nefesh BEHANU: "nefesh" = soul in general or more specific meaning yechida BEHANU: nefesh, ruach, neshama, chaya, BEHANU: from 'low' to 'higher' order eliana batyah: ty Bat Chesed: so behanu the nefesh existed as Adom and hashem breathed into it and it became a ruach, yes? BEHANU: hold that q for a moment - it is a good one BEHANU: and ask the instructor A D A M_3: is the nefesh absolute.... always true to its purpose? Bat Chesed: he accept the mission to work to cause tikkun haolam for the whole world Bat Chesed: accepted A D A M_3: bat.....can you use med type print..... please Bat Chesed: np Adam. The new build erased all my settings. Bat Chesed: is a darker colour better too Adam? BEHANU: Adam - hold that Q as well - good one A D A M_3: your color was great......and different Bat Chesed: ok, I switched back to it A D A M_3: k janice64: i you beat me to it thought G-d breathed the neshamah and adam became a nepesh Bat Chesed: welcome janice64: hey stan Stan BEHANU: BAT go ahead Bat Chesed: Adam, you go first BEHANU: ADAM ok BEHANU: Gentlemen's Night at the bar SHeMABruce: kelipah Bat Chesed: Q: soin essence the nefesh existed as Adom and hashem breathed into it and it became a ruach, yes? SHeMABruce: resha Bat Chesed: their nefesh A D A M_3: i can wait is true to itself, their yetzer hara is not content to be that SHeMABruce: i thought neshama SHeMABruce: inner space Taz_Aharon: the was like a forceful exhale ruach is like wind is like the breathe down the neck Taz_Aharon: neshama SHeMABruce: ruach is the breath moving through the pipe is the breath as it exits the mouth SHeMABruce: i think SHeMABruce: from his "lungs" SHeMABruce: neshama Taz_Aharon: ruach is the link BEHANU: good way to say SHeMABruce: the nefesh is SHeMABruce: "at rest" it taz the air in the glass Taz_Aharon: glassblower is on page 19 BEHANU: In comparison, nefesh is associated with the physical world, the neshama with the heavens and the ruach would be the 'ladder' connecting (i.e. Jacobs dream) Taz_Aharon: neshama BEHANU: See is a closer intimacy chart at http://www.yashanet.com/studies/judaism101/chart.htm Taz_Aharon: with hashem Taz_Aharon: ruach is a lower intimacy BEHANU: ruach would be the 'crossover' point between a person's psychological and spiritual 'selves' BEHANU: (another way to put it) Taz_Aharon: ruach is the wind blowing down from Gods breath is the vessel Taz_Aharon: neshama janice64: is anyone on the mic BEHANU: yes BEHANU: re enter room A D A M_3: good sound SHeMABruce: no matter how hard you try, you can't clean a white sheet while it is immersed in mud. Our souls cannot be fully manifested in the mud of this world. Bat Chesed: better janice64: yeah SHeMABruce: hi janice bat Marciyah Bat Chesed: which page now please Isibel A D A M_3: bat......she is reading additional Bat Chesed: thanks Bat Chesed: yes thanks material\ Adam A D A M_3: its about time BEHANU: at the moment we're BEHANU: from reading and discussion some supplemental material Adin Steinsaltz commentary on the Tanya A D A M_3: olive is just Bat Chesed: hello olive doncote: hey Stan o doncote: been a bit a late starter man, be a bit BEHANU: at the moment we are reading and discussing some supllemental material from Adin Steinsaltz commentary on the Tanya olkee_1: ok shalom all Bat Chesed: R. Shapiro says as Israel is the land bridge between Africa and Asia, so the jewish people are the bridge between hashem and the fallen world. janice64: shalom olkee BEHANU: Neat analogy Bat SHeMABruce: imho, the exalting of the "jew" in judaic literature is wrong. The focus should be on the mission not the missionary. olkee_1: is stan here? SHeMABruce: it it. BEHANU: I keep studying the material in spite of the ultra-semitism, not because of wouldnt 'exalt' anyone, but there is a distinction SHeMABruce: I keep... Bat Chesed: without the people their would be no carrying on of the mission. The difference in neshama is specifically for the purpose of fulfilling the mission sparkle_zzirf: got it janice64: well..if anyone has built a relationship with G-d the jews have SHeMABruce: i am as against ultra-semitism as i am anti-semitism. Bat Chesed: the patriarchs and their stories are the archtype of all people and from Avraham we see the villains and the hereos BEHANU: Even for those who believe in the NT, Paul says the Jew has an advantage due to their relationship with G-d sparkle_zzirf: but what defines a Jew? SHeMABruce: but its because of the advantages they had to aquire that relationship, not because of who they are tstudy84: I dont see it as "ultra-semitism" but as safeguarding against outside influence especially hellenism BEHANU: Born of a Jew for one Taz_Aharon: paul also says, their all one in messiah BEHANU: I disagree Bruce sparkle_zzirf: no such thing BEHANU: The from birth. as a spiritual Jew (not physical)? Jew has an advantage and relationship separate from others in humanity Taz_Aharon: whats a spiritual jew? A D A M_3: << closes eyes........so i can hear better Bat Chesed: Me too Behanu. The jewish people were chosen out for a purpose and the torah is their story SHeMABruce: that's ok. I simply despise arrogance however it is presented. I can't accept exalting one ethnicity over another. janice64: without sparkle_zzirf: A BEHANU: Not the jews we wouldn't have the covenants or the bible jew at the level of the heart exalting ... just clarifying Taz_Aharon: behanu, Taz_Aharon: so... SHeMABruce: to african, etc. Hashem is a respecter of no persons me "jew" is a purely spiritual thing. A jew can be japanese, chinese, Bat Chesed: that's not correct Taz. He obviously chose out people over others. He allowed Yosef to go into bondage to prepare the way when he could have chosen any of the brothers or any other person Taz_Aharon: we also see in Torah that a stranger could join the circimsition its in scripture Taz_Aharon: bat, BEHANU: Anyhow, let's remember we're all 'in class' now SHeMABruce: i agree taz. But that's a NT passage, and some Bat Chesed: yes Taz_Aharon: ah here reject the NT. ... join the circumcision by conversion not by wishful thinking Bat Chesed: Taz, gotcha it's in the NT Taz_Aharon: there SHeMABruce: and wasnt a conversion to a religion in torah, bat taz, that's actually one reason they reject the NT. Some don't like equality being suggested. Taz_Aharon: interesting Bat Chesed: Taz, yes there was although not in the fashion of today. let's listen and keep that for later Bat Chesed: however, BEHANU: Lets hold off on the 'who's a jew' thing for after class Taz_Aharon: bat, Taz_Aharon: ok a jew in torah is one of blood, not religion sparkle_zzirf: ok Taz_Aharon: both jew AND gentile have a nefesh Taz_Aharon: freewill Taz_Aharon: etc Taz_Aharon: janice64: i would like to hear shemabruce's goal for the jewish people SHeMABruce: same as the goal for every human SHeMABruce: simple BEHANU: ok janice64: ok but lets hold on behanu A D A M_3: what the heck is a neeanderthou? luminous_spirit: lol ADAM SHeMABruce: neanderthal Taz_Aharon: lol A D A M_3: oh like tstudy84: lol sherryr: lolol my daughters boyfriend? ADAM BEHANU: Please try to keep the Qs topic related Isibel: LOL BEHANU: Adam - the first Isibel: www.classicsinai.com BEHANU: not my fault ... sherryr: lolol is like an ape-man guy. Kinda like some of my neighbors. Adam said that Behanu BEHANU: great BEHANU: By? site BEHANU: Spiro? BEHANU: Kellemen? BEHANU: who is the lecturer isibel? BEHANU: of the education audio BEHANU: i can find it BEHANU: Motty BergerBEHANU: first audio on that page (answer when you feel best) but how do we know "Neanderthal" didn't speak or contemplate hashem and the relationship with him? troy_gs: i think the beasts are evil troy_gs: what about a dog that attacks a person? after the class to derech@yashanet.com Bat Chesed: that's often instinct or illness troy Bat Chesed: Q: A D A M_3: bat...like i asked......what the heck is a neanderthal........? BEHANU: That dog is not making a 'moral' decision to bite you Bat Chesed: Adam, for me it's man's best guest of what people were like in one of the last earths BEHANU: he mayjust think you're a mailman troy_gs: actually i think the animals have a mind and can discern between good and evil at some level sherryr: I once heard an interesting theory that if man lived to 500-700 years, he would look like an neanderthal janice64: neanderthal had very big heads troy_gs: i've read in the bible A D A M_3: oh...... ok bat.... SHeMABruce: Adam, thing SHeMABruce: but Bat Chesed: troy, about evil beasts if you believe i evolution, neanderthal was an early humanoid/ape i reject evolution yes animals have a mind, however they do not have an elevated level of soul to discern evil and good BEHANU: evolution and creationism can be another night's topic -- that could be intersting janice64: wow sherry..interesting janice64: neanderthal are believed to be prehuman BEHANU: temp side bar ... Bat Chesed: well, judaism does teach that there were other earths before this one Adam troy_gs: well Bat Chesed, i'm not so sure about that Bat Chesed: ok troy, that's up to you. However the teaching of the night is that animals have a nefesh but do not have a neshama A D A M_3: BEHANU: the best to be quiet and keep learning question to always ask is 'why do i believe what i believe' (about any topic) Bat Chesed: Egypt was the spiritual antithesis of Israel Bat Chesed: and yet highly spiritual Taz_Aharon: egypt is cursed Bat Chesed: Adam, Taz_Aharon: heh it's conditioning SHeMABruce: bedtime. troy_gs: sorry BEHANU: Highly goodnight. cultured scum sherryr: Shalom Bruce Bat Chesed: Taz, my point is that in the torah there is different archtypes for all of creation and that includes Egypt which was HIGHLY spiritual but not connected to hashem A D A M_3: << been luminous_spirit: lol conditioned to bring in the news paper in the morning Taz_Aharon: of course bat Bat Chesed: that would be a waste here Adam, the paper comes twice a week in the afternoon A D A M_3: dont pervoke me woman....... im listening BEHANU: lol BEHANU: "woman" Bat Chesed: resist the yetzer hara young jedi, resist .... lol Bat Chesed: which is why each mitsvah a jewish person undertakes is attributed to the whole nation A D A M_3: free will Bat Chesed: leprosy of the house is interesting BEHANU: and clothing BEHANU: Shalom and welcome to our Derech Hashem class on the fundamental principles that underlie the Torah as brought down through the Jewish people from Mt. Sinai. Details are at www.yashanet.com/derech - Feel free to also email questions after the class to derech@yashanet.com A D A M_3: i think its time for me Bat Chesed: lol Adam, go ahead A D A M_3: im to inneract with this bottle of wine..... just a glass.... looking for its spirit Bat Chesed: it's spirit will open your spirit A D A M_3: ineresting....... good idea luminous_spirit: spirited drink always knocks my spirit clean out Isibel: http://odeo.com/episodes/22541302-Education-vs-Conditioning Bat Chesed: sends mine to the hospital LevEchad: thank you so very much Isibel, love this class A D A M_3: its spirit relaxs my spirit A D A M_3: puts a smile on my face too BEHANU: we can keep discussion going a while ... only 10:30 est LevEchad: lumi haha luminous_spirit: mine too ADAM .. REALLY relaxed zzzzzzzzzzz Bat Chesed: and babel was a good example of how dangerous Isibel: Thus that power could be? we have the shema Isibel: BEHANU: Torah is heart medicine Isibel: Yes tstudy84: loved the class Isibel here...thanks so much, same time next week Bat Chesed: take care Lev LevEchad: phone shalom all luminous_spirit: eliana batyah: shalom sherryr: Shalom luminous luminous BEHANU: can u sparkle_zzirf: If mention next weeks topic(s) a bit? the soul cannot manifest in this world (you said before) then where is the next world? BEHANU: yay Bat Chesed: sparkle, at this time Bat Chesed: the neshama manifests in the olam haba, the world to come sparkle_zzirf: where is the world to come? Bat Chesed: my understanding is here sparkle_zzirf: then the soul can manifest here BEHANU: "the kingdom of G-d is amidst/within you" BEHANU: manifest? sparkle_zzirf: so why say it cannot manfiest here A D A M_3: when you are HIS.......always look sparkle_zzirf: where is the world to come? with in. Bat Chesed: but not here at this time. took these notes while Isibel was talking "the soul is not allowed to manifest in this world - we have the spiritual organs like lungs in a womb, but will not manifest until one is born into another world" Bat Chesed: another world doesn't mean another planet; perhaps another epoch is better for understanding. A reborn earth sparkle_zzirf: I A D A M_3: which level of sparkle_zzirf: after death the soul..... sparkle? sparkle_zzirf: many say this world sparkle_zzirf: the time it is to be revealed A D A M_3: our fallen state Bat Chesed: sparkle there is a concept taught by some sages in judaism that this is not the first "incarnation" of this world - but the 6th sparkle_zzirf: yes A D A M_3: world or age? Bat Chesed: so my understand sparkle_zzirf: spiritual world? awlthroear: so YehoshuaBA: 2 is that the olam haba is the 7th "world" where does Yeshua fit here? Bat Chesed: this age, is the preparation for the messianic age which each jewish person looks for and has been working toward BEHANU: that depends on what you believe awlthroear A D A M_3: awlth....... where do you A D A M_3: ...that is your choice. A D A M_3: in want YESHUA to fit? your own life awlthroear: hmmmm BEHANU: agreed sparkle_zzirf: after the resurrection Bat Chesed: sparkle, the last world janice64: which is the next world is soon bat sparkle_zzirf: bat? BEHANU: You got the 'path' to walk down now and figure that out next 150 years things by level of soul Bat Chesed: probably best to remember that neither the Ramchal nor other sages quoted saw Y'shua as the messiah and certainly the last 2000 years have not be considered the messianic age sparkle_zzirf: next world could be our next highest level sparkle_zzirf: even in this world BEHANU: http://www.yashanet.com/studies/judaism101/chart.htm - see this for levels of soul and more Bat Chesed: and the torah shows us that women have a different connect to hashem than men do. Men look outward; women focus more inwardly Bat Chesed: janice yes, sometimes within the sparkle_zzirf: different people mean different A D A M_3: yet a man can look inwardly A D A M_3: if he chooses A D A M_3: <<< made that Bat Chesed: Adam, choice not in the same way exactly. We see in the stories of the matriarchs that the female archtype is different from the male Bat Chesed: just as israel is different from the 70 nations A D A M_3: as i see it......looking within is Bat Chesed: perhaps there is no marrying looking within... or giving in marriage in the olam haba because mankind is again united as one being male and female together Bat Chesed: Isibel, that actually leads into a question I was hoping you could address .... Isibel: Ok BEHANU: go for it Bat Chesed: the concept of Teshuva miyireh, Bat Chesed: teshuva because of fear of hashem BEHANU: translate for all ... BEHANU: ok BEHANU: 'repentance' A D A M_3: explain fear BEHANU: =teshuvah Bat Chesed: yes, BEHANU: fear is sorry behanu 'awe' BEHANU: at the higher level Bat Chesed: Adam, it's a specific phrase of the sages so that's why I asking A D A M_3: awe is good......... BEHANU: fear is scared at a lower level Bat Chesed: Many times Israel made repentence hashem might take because of it's fear of the actions BEHANU: it goes: lower fear, lower love, higher love then higher fear (spiritual evolution of a person) A D A M_3: hey....im BEHANU: im somewhere on that list in the mezzanine level Taz_Aharon: Taz_Aharon: kinda Taz_Aharon: but Taz_Aharon: lol like a husband and wife greater tstudy84: lol BEHANU: i better stop BEHANU: with PMs doing that tstudy84: lol sherryr: Hmmm, good analogy Isibel Taz_Aharon: hehe Taz_Aharon: they got the golden calf worship from egypt BEHANU: they were focused on the judgmental (power) aspect of G-d as they 'needed' that to get through the desert BEHANU: this is what the calf/bull represents Bat Chesed: they may have got the idea to make a physical representation but their need had nothing to do with Egypt. BEHANU: it was less egyptian than symbolic of gevurah - power of G-d BEHANU: but it is grave sin to 'separate' G-d as such BEHANU: G-d is one awlthroear: seperation from Yah has no life Taz_Aharon: thats true BEHANU: it is not so much "separating G-d" separating FROM G-d - they were not doing that - they were Taz_Aharon: we shouldnt be able to connect to him at all Taz_Aharon: but he loves us Bat Chesed: so it doesn't matter so much the reason and proven? BEHANU: dividing up G-d so to speak BEHANU: and focusing on 1 aspect separately behind teshuva, but that it is made Taz_Aharon: man, my text is small Taz_Aharon: hehe BEHANU: similar to sin of Aaron's sons btw Taz_Aharon: yes Taz_Aharon: right awlthroear: Very true Beh YehoshuaBA: you can change the size of that Taz Taz_Aharon: its almost more than one type of teshuvah BEHANU: brb Alert: An admin left the room: BEHANU Taz_Aharon: repentance out of fear Bat Chesed: but that kind of repentence would probably same situation that caused the sin in the first place Taz_Aharon: repentance out of love Taz_Aharon: i know yehoshua Taz_Aharon: heh Taz_Aharon: i put it this way YehoshuaBA: ok Taz_Aharon: not all woman like rings Taz_Aharon: haha Alert: An admin joined the room: BEHANU Taz_Aharon: diamonds! Taz_Aharon: lol not survive being placed in BEHANU: spyware attack Isibel: not lawnmowers BEHANU: be careful all Isibel: LOL A D A M_3: have to go isibel...... thanks for room. Taz_Aharon: i told my with once i planned on getting her a ring for our anniversary Isibel: Shalom ty Taz_Aharon: and she told me tstudy84: ha ha lawnmowers.... Taz_Aharon: thats stupid, dont waste the money sparkle_zzirf: spyware from Paltalk? BEHANU: if you get a screen regarding this dont hit the cancel button Taz_Aharon: wife once* BEHANU: best to leave PT and sign back on awlthroear: Shalom BEHANU: done through as it will launch it paltalk Bat Chesed: in class today R. Ken said, sparkle_zzirf: ok thanks for the info G-d is like the ultimate jewish mother .... Isibel: LOL Bat Chesed: he knows ALL your faults, but cares about you anyway Taz_Aharon: lol Bat Chesed: and enough to tell you things like "I told you not to do that. listen." You NEVER Isibel: Taz_Aharon: good thing YHVH has both males and female aspects Bat Chesed: of course he said it with a bad yiddish accent and a screechy voice Isibel: LOLO Marciyah: thanks for the room Marciyah: shalom Isibel: Thank you very much Isibel: Shalom Taz_Aharon: cya marci sparkle_zzirf: Is the lesson Taz_Aharon: Isibel: Well, Isibel: ty over now? good study tonight no new questions taz BEHANU: open Isibel: Yes forum for Qs BEHANU: longer room coming next week Taz_Aharon: of course rabbi isibel tstudy84: Learned alot today Isibel - hope Taz_Aharon: Taz_Aharon: lol Bat Chesed: thanks someone is recording Isibel. It was really nice of your to hold class while I had to reinstall paltalk YehoshuaBA: --sherryr: Thank you Isibel, shalom all Isibel: LOL Isibel: Shalom Sherry Taz_Aharon: i gotta write all my geneology stuff in my stone chumash Taz_Aharon: haha iguana_8: thanks isibel Taz_Aharon: i thought that was super cool Bat Chesed: Isibel, do you think knowing the archtype represented by each patriarch and matriarch is important? Taz_Aharon: it has that sparkle_zzirf: thank you Isibel Isibel: I would love to, yes Isibel: Thank for the lesson you sparkle Taz_Aharon: Taz_Aharon: im suprized bruce left soo early Taz_Aharon: he must have to get up early Isibel: Yes Taz_Aharon: i gotta get up at 3am Isibel: OUCH Bat Chesed: maybe Isibel: why? so Taz, I hope he rests well tstudy84: yikes Taz_Aharon: Taz_Aharon: i work at 4am Isibel: Oh Bat Chesed: that's an early shift Taz, what time zone are you Taz_Aharon: as long as i get around 5 hrs Taz_Aharon: im good Taz_Aharon: pacific YehoshuaBA: nothing like getting up at half-past stupid in the morning Isibel: I like the 11-7am thing I do Taz_Aharon: yeah Taz_Aharon: i gotta get another job Bat Chesed: oh ok, so you could get a good 6 hours if you go to bed soon Taz_Aharon: hashem willing Taz_Aharon: if i wanted Isibel: I could play more ladino music Taz_Aharon: but i never do Isibel: LOL tha then Isibel: that will put you to sleep Taz_Aharon: lol Taz_Aharon: i like eastern music Taz_Aharon: all types pretty much Isibel: I do too Isibel: mororccan Isibel: esp Isibel: and turkish Isibel: ladino Taz_Aharon: especially the indian and arabian music tstudy84: I like the melodies on Azamra Bat Chesed: Isibel, last week I finally had the biopsy and I was really uneasy about it so before I went I played Dan Nichols Hashkeveinu over like 10 times. BEHANU: you could play that tune BEHANU: that is nice Taz_Aharon: i hate going to the doc Taz_Aharon: ive had too many scacres Taz_Aharon: scares Bat Chesed: Taz, for 10 months I have had a progressively larger mass on my abdomen.
