ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE BLOCK GRANTS 2015 Including equivalent RIBG distribution and Special Purpose Funds awards CONDITIONS OF AWARD The value of this infrastructure grant is up to $70,000 Objectives These Awards are administered through the Royal Adelaide Hospital Research Committee with the aim of supporting clinically relevant research infrastructure at The Royal Adelaide Hospital campus by clinical investigators. These grants are NOT Commonwealth Funded RIBG grants, but are funded from equivalent infrastructure funding distribution allocated annually under the Affiliate Agreements with the Universities and matching support funds from the private practice earning SPF fund. Researchers, Laboratories and Departments that have contributed to the generation of these funds will be given preference, subject to the quality of the application, and are especially encouraged to apply for infrastructure funding under this program. However, all RAH Departments may apply and may be funded through SPF-derived funds. Joint applications between two or more departments will be favourably considered. Eligibility These Awards are intended to support RAH research infrastructure on the RAH campus. Please note that SA Pathology and Universities have independent RIBG/Infrastructure awards and are not eligible to apply under this program. Conditions of Award 1. Award of up to $70,000 for one year only per individual Researcher/Department. Genuine joint applications between two or more departments may be considered for a higher amount at the discretion of the Research Committee. The Committee may elect to award a lesser amount. The Committee will determine which awards will be distributed as either RIBG equivalent awards, SPF funded grants or any other awards. 2. Only one application per Coordinating Chief Investigator is permitted. a. The award must be used only for any one or more of the following purposes (as stipulated by NHMRC RIBG policy): i. non-capital aspects of facilities such as libraries, laboratories, computing centres, animal houses, herbaria, experimental farms; ii. equipment purchase, installation, maintenance, hire and lease; Revised 12/02/2016 iii. salaries of research support staff (including research assistants; accounting and administrative staff; and technicians) employed to provide general support activity in a given area (e.g. a research assistant providing support for a number of research projects but not a research assistant dedicated to a particular project); b. The RIBG Grant must not be used for: i. capital works (i.e. construction of buildings); ii. rental of accommodation; iii. salaries of teaching and research, and research-only academic staff (including the cost of ‘buying time’ to free such staff to do more research); iv. salaries of staff supporting research at the institutional level (e.g. Research Director, Research Grants Officer); v. stipends of postgraduate research students; or vi. travel costs 3. Funds must be expended/committed within the allocated calendar year (Jan-Dec 2015). Any unexpended funds will be automatically reclaimed twelve months after taking up the grant. No carry over of funds will be permitted. 4. Where appropriate, any institutional clearances must be provided before funding is released (human ethics, animal ethics, gene technology, radiation, engineering, OHS&W, Human Resources, equipment purchasing approvals as applicable to the funding request). 5. The committee requires a brief report outlining how the funds were expended and any benefits that have been derived from this funding (within 3 months of the funding expenditure).
