Policy 2.1.8 Page 1 of 2 UTMB RESPIRATORY CARE SERVICES POLICY – Respiratory Care Assistant II Respiratory Care Assistant II Formulated: 07/31/02 Effective: Revised: 03/01/02 07/31/02 Respiratory Care Assistant II Job Summary To provide advanced technical skills in the preparation of all respiratory care equipment used during setup, testing, and delivery of equipment to RCS Clinical Staff. Also, to provide basic clerical support for routine tasks required in the department of Respiratory Care Services as needed by the Team Leader, Clinical Specialist or Staff Therapist. Major Duties / Critical Tasks Triages telephone messages. Maintains records and files. Gathers quantitative data for the measurement of work, quality assurance, patient census, or other department reporting needs, calculates work units and enters on data sheet. Updates computer patient printout and prints patient lists. Distributes and/or exchanges pagers. Maintaining a daily log of pagers checked out and returned after each use. Maintains assignment sheet to ascertain location of employees at all times. Check materials received against invoices, checking weights and quantities received. Receives, unpacks, and shelves incoming supplies. Maintains storage space in a clean and orderly condition. Clerical duties include checking materials received against invoices and checking weights and quantities received. Assists in preparing all patient care areas for a variety of Respiratory Care procedures. Sets up Respiratory Care machines, tracheal intubation equipment, monitoring equipment, and other supplies peculiar to pulmonary care. Cleans Respiratory Care machines and other equipment after Respiratory Care procedures. Maintains inventory records and orders, stores, and distributes Respiratory Care supplies, drugs, and equipment. Adheres to internal controls established for the department as reflected on daily assignment sheets. Performs related duties as required. Required High school or equivalent. Two years of related experience. Respiratory Education & Care Assistant Certification. Experience: Equipment: Standard respiratory care equipment. Standard office equipment. May be required to be on standby and work extended shifts in situations deemed necessary by the RCS Director or designate. Must be available if needed to support patient care in time of disaster/emergency conditions.
