Shanghai Normal University was founded in 1954. Over the half century, our school, once the single normal
college, has developed gradually into a characteristic university, which owns ten major disciplines including
philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, natural science, technology, agronomy and managerial
science. At present, SHNU boasts 16 colleges, 3 E-research institutes, 80 institutes, 1 discipline base of
personnel training and scientific research in basic disciplines of liberal arts. And it has 4 post-doctor mobile
stations, 2 first-class discipline authorized to confer doctorates, 22 second-class disciplines authorized to confer
doctorates, and 93 disciplines authorized to confer master degrees. It also offers 80 disciplines that grant
bachelor degrees or associate degrees. Up to now, it has over 1600 full-time faculty, of which 844 professors and
more than 550 associate professors. It has also conducted cooperation and exchanges with over 180 universities
from foreign countries such as the United States, Canada, Germany, UK, France, Australia, Japan, and Korea.
Each year in our university there are more than 2,000 short-term and long-term international students studying
for Doctor, Master and Bachelor’s degrees.
