Information about computer usage at FSS CU Computer laboratories: Students should only make use of the computer lab of the institute they study at. Access to other computer labs is generally not allowed. An exception to this rule can only be made provided the student attends classes in the building of a different institute. The Hollar building (applies only to the students of journalism) : Room 020 Location: in the subterranean area under the second staircase next to the coffee machine Opening hours: lab is freely accessible in the workdays from 8am-8pm. Entrance with a student chip card. Room 108 Location: 2nd floor; exit to the right from the elevator Opening hours: only for classes. Enter with card. The library has computers which can be used by students. The Opletalova building: Room 016 Location: in the basement area, under the staircase straight ahead Opening hours: the lab is freely accessible on Mo-Th, 8am-7.45pm and Fr 8am-4.45pm. Entrance with a student chip card. Two more computers are available for short sessions in the library (Room 310). The Jinonice building: Rooms 2063, 2066, 2067, 2071, 2074 Location: 1st floor of building A (button 2! in the lift) Opening hours: the labs are freely accessible on workdays from 8.15am-7pm unless classes are being held there. The computer labs and networks (both wireless and fixed line) fall under the administration of the UVT (the rector’s office) and not FSS CU. User support is located in office no. 2065. Accounts at Hollar, Opletalova and Jinonice User accounts Each student at FSS CU is issued a computer account for the PCs at FSS; it is activated once the initial password provided at the service centres has been changed. Providing your log-in data to any other person is forbidden; students bear the responsibility for the misuse of their account in cases of insufficient protection of the password. A student is entitled to use his/her account throughout the duration of active studies only. Once the studies have been completed, the account is automatically terminated. A student’s PC account may be temporarily blocked or terminated in cases of violation of the rules regarding the use of the faculty's computer technology. The log-in and central authentication service password (CAS) The card service centre issues the student with an initial password, which s/he is required to change (https://ldap1.cuni.cz/doc/about) at the address https://ldap.cuni.cz within 5 days. The CAS password enables students to set their own password(s) for all of the universitywide applications (SIS, Eduroam, library, etc.). Forgotten log-in Numerical login is printed on the student ID card under the photograph. The laboratories 020 (Hollar) and 016 (Opletalova) have computers (visibly labelled with a sign Logins) allowing access to an online application https://ldap1.cuni.cz/search/login where students can look up their name login based on knowing their numerical login. Students may also get their log-in at the user support facilities during office hours (Hollar: room 214, Opletalova: room 017, Jinonice: room 3091 or room 2065 – ÚVT). Log-in process for the computers at FSS If a student has access to the CAS, s/he is also granted access to the PCs at the FSS. Unlike with the CAS, the student has to insert a name log-in and not numerical log-in in the Hollar and Opletalova buildings. In the CAS, - the name log-in may be found directly below the numerical log-in. If the log-in to the PC has failed it is necessary to verify if a student (using the same log-in data as for PC) may log in to https://ldap.cuni.cz (CAS). User support offices at FSS: Hollar: room 214 (Mo – Th 9:00 – 11:00 13:00 – 15:00) (Fr 9:00 – 11:00) Opletalova: room 014 (Mo – Th 9:00 – 11:00 13:00 – 15:00) (Fr 9:00 – 11:00) Jinonice: room 2065 (Mo – Fr 8:15 – 19:00) Any problems will be dealt with during office hours only. User’s disk Each user is provided with a network disk of 50MB used for the storage of data and connected as unit I:\. This disk is only designed for the storage of data related to studies. Network printers The computer laboratories in our buildings have network printers which allow students to make copies for a fee. Information about printing can be found elsewhere. Hollar- in front of room 214 (once you exit the lift on the 2st floor, go to the right, then to the right again) Opletalova- in front of room 015 (in the basement, under the staircase on the right) WiFi access for students‘ laptops The WiFi network Eduroam is available for students in the Hollar, Opletalova and Jinonice buildings. Faculty e-mails for students All registered students who are granted access to CAS in the card centre, are automatically given a faculty Gmail account in the fsv.cuni.cz domain. The login is “CAS number login@fsv.cuni.cz” and the password is also generated in CAS. This email account is the primary communication channel between students, teachers and the student office. All information from the Student Information System and the Student Office will be sent there. You can find general information on using Google applications here: http://learn.googleapps.com/ Restriction: The IT Office provides NO user support for students‘ laptops!
