Alexandra Michelle Reimann ND Education Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Graduate June 2011 Bastyr University, Kenmore, WA 2007-2011 Successfully completed accredited coursework and clinical training including one year each of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, counseling, physical/sports medicine, botanical medicine and homeopathy. Other coursework and training included cardiology, pulmonology, urology, gastroenterology, immunology, pharmacology, gynecology, dermatology, EENT, neurology, environmental medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, hematology, rheumatology and oncology. Completed specialty clinical rotations in adjunctive cancer care, IV therapy, pediatrics, and minor office procedures. Completed additional coursework in neonatology, advanced gynecology, advanced IV administration, Ayurvedic herbal therapeutics, Traditional Chinese Medicine tongue and pulse diagnosis, gemmotherapy and craniosacral therapy. Completed a one year internship at Emerald City Naturopathic Clinic under the supervision of Dr. Molly Linton, an ND with 26 years of clinical experience. In addition to precepting with Dr. Linton, other responsibilities included performing blood draws, IV pushes and drips, nebulizer treatments, kinesiology testing, physical exams and physical therapy. Also performed administrative duties such as medical literature research, creating patient education materials, and corresponding with patients, lab personnel and other physicians. Attained successful patient outcomes on the adjunctive cancer care rotation at the Bastyr clinic. Treatment protocols were multifaceted and included nutrition and lifestyle modification, botanical medicines, nutraceuticals, and referrals for spiritual/psychological counseling, acupuncture and mind-body biofeedback training. Completed a two quarter rotation at Bastyr’s offsite community outreach clinic. Had the opportunity to serve a diverse population and treat a variety of complex, chronic conditions while working creatively with limited resources. Completed two rotations on the environmental medicine shift at the Bastyr clinic. Worked to remove obstacles to cure by educating patients on sources of toxins, their ramifications on health, methods of opening elimination channels and how to restore a healthy physiologic terrain. Attained positive clinical outcomes with patients suffering from ulcerative colitis, celiac and Crohn’s disease. Completed extensive courses in materia medica, herbal preparations and formulations. Studied herb/drug interactions, pharmacognacy, pharmacology and nutrition. Developed an understanding of herbal and allopathic medical research. Received training in quality assurance/quality control in herbal industry. Relevant Experience Teaching Assistant Botanical Medicine Department 2006-2010 Assisted core faculty in teaching botanical medicine classes and labs. Prepared class materials, set up labs, graded assignments, created and performed demonstrations. Answered questions, facilitated learning and encouraged students to feel at ease with learning herbal medicine. Led students on herb walks with the purpose of guiding them in identifying and categorizing plants both botanically and medicinally. Offered supplemental tutorials for those in need. Guided herb walks for the community and general public in the Bastyr garden and surrounding forests. Educated people about plants and their traditional medicinal and spiritual uses. Teaching Assistant Medical Procedures 2009 Assisted instructor in class set up and instruction. Offered guidance to students learning IV administration, eustachian tube drainage, nasosimpatico treatment, and various injection techniques. Responsible for ascertaining students’ competency in administering treatments. Herbal Ways Club Coordinator 2008- 2011 Provided instruction and guidance to students and staff with all levels of herbal experience. Created and led classes in herbal preparations for the Bastyr community. Encouraged learning in a fun, nonjudgmental, supportive environment. Heron Botanicals Student Representative 2009- 2011 Educated students and staff about the importance of ensuring that herbal medicines are of high quality and are sustainably harvested. Adhered to safety guidelines and advised on herb/drug and herb/herb interactions. Responsible for ordering and delivering herbal medicines for students and practitioners. Accompanied Dr. Robin DiPasquale, at her request, to the National Botanical Gardens in Washington D.C. for Herb Day in October, 2006 to represent Bastyr University on a national level. Duties were to educate the public about herbs and botanical medicine and to bridge the divide between lay people and scientists. Traveled to Kenya in the summer of 2005 with N.D. students and fellow herbalists through the organization Village Volunteers. Taught hygiene, nutrition and preventive health maintenance. Helped educate and treat hundreds of people, dispensed herbal, nutritional and homeopathic remedies. Was inspired to continue my education and become a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.
