Why I want to take the Practitioner’s program at Edison Institute of Nutrition At thirty I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. The discomfort and pain led me to change my eating habits and support my system with herbal remedies. Thus began my interest in nutrition and herbal medicine. In the mid 90s I enrolled in the Clinical Herbalist program at Dominion College in Vancouver. Circumstances prevented me from completing the program, but I was armed with more information about the use of herbs as medicine. I have continued reading articles and books to keep up with the changes and new findings. I am now 67 years old, retired, and living in Mexico. I’ve lived in Oaxaca for six years and find that retirement doesn’t suit me. Although I’ve been involved in various volunteer activities, I need a purpose and recently decided to return to my ‘first love’ – nutrition and herbal medicine. I have a friend who completed the program with Edison and recommended it highly. I am also impressed with the course outline and approach for the practitioner’s program. There are many areas in which I feel I could help here in Oaxaca. Obesity and diabetes is on the rise. In the pueblos, where people are very poor and their food choices are limited, many children are malnourished. Some of the cooking practices are unhealthy. I am committed and ready to begin studying for my new career! Denise Galipeau
