BASTYR- WA CHAPTER ELECTIONS
Applications must be submitted to: Meghan Kemnec, chapter VP
at nmsa@bastyr.edu by February 23, 2013.
Elections will be held March 10th-21st, 2013.
Term of Service: May 1, 2014 – August 31, 2015
All members are expected to attend all chapter meetings and have at least 2 hours per week
to spend on NMSA related projects to fulfill position requirements.

NMSA BASTYR CHAPTER POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
Executive Members
PRESIDENT
● Commit to serving as active President for one year
● Oversee general functioning of the Bastyr NMSA Chapter
● Oversee all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings
● Create weekly agenda and send out to chapter officers
● Communicate regularly with National NMSA Executive Committee
● Attend Monthly NMSA Chapter President’s Teleconference
● Complete the NMSA Status Update at least three days prior to Chapter President’s
Meeting
● Maintain the NMSA Bastyr Chapter Timeline
● Attend National NMSA functions including the August and January Leadership
Retreats
● Attend Bastyr University Student Council Meetings
● In the absence of a Treasurer, the President and Vice President share the
responsibilities of the Treasurer
● Manage Bastyr NMSA bank card and deposits
● Maintain and update the NMSA Bastyr Security Document including all logins.

VICE PRESIDENT
● Assume the role of President in the event the President is unable to complete their
term; at which time a new Vice President will be elected or appointed
● Aid President in overseeing Bastyr NMSA Chapter events and assist in effectively
managing the organization of these events
● Liaison for Bastyr University California
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings
● Attend Bastyr University Student Council meetings if President is unable to attend
● Organize Bastyr NMSA elections in Winter Quarter
● Manage the chapter officer’s coordination of their events
● Ensure that individual position chairs inform student body of events related to their
positions
● Track and record monthly progress of the chapter officers to effectively manage
events and goals
● Compile monthly progress reports and submit to the president quarterly
● Serve as a liaison to the Bastyr Administration as needed
● In the absence of a Treasurer, the President and Vice President share the
responsibilities of the Treasurer

SECRETARY
● Coordinate correspondence and assist in organization of the Bastyr NSMA chapter
● Coordinate with the chapter officers to maintain and update the events calendar and
inform the ND student body of upcoming events via email
● Maintain and respond to the Bastyr NMSA email account (nmsa@bastyr.edu)
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA meetings to record and distribute minutes to active members
within one week of the meeting
● Maintain archive of all meeting minutes on the Bastyr NMSA Google Drive
● Assist President in transferring minutes to NMSA Bastyr Chapter Timeline
● Assist President and coordinate with other officers to update the NMSA Bastyr

TREASURER
● Handle distribution of all chapter funds allocated by NMSA National Treasurer for
chapter expenses
● Manage Bastyr NMSA Treasurer bank card
● Manage Bastyr NMSA chapter expenses and budget including funds acquired through
fundraising efforts
● Develop bi-annual (September and January) budget and distribute to all Bastyr NMSA
officers
● Provide regular (monthly) accounts update to President
● Work with each Bastyr NMSA officer to ensure financial viability of their individual
activities
● Work with Bastyr University Student Council treasurer for all dual-sponsored events
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE CHAIR / AMSA REPRESENTATIVE

Responsible for communicating with the National Integrative Medicine Chair
Provide updates to Bastyr ND students regarding Integrative Medicine/AMSA
Hold at least one annual event to unite the Bastyr community and to convey the
importance of working with other health care practitioners effectively.
○ International Integrative Medicine Day event (in January)
Coordinate with the AMSA UW Representative
Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CHAIR
● Responsible for communicating with the National Professional Development Chair and
the National Residency Chair
● Make professional development information easily available and accessible to Bastyr
ND students
● Organize at least one annual event at Bastyr to address topics including but not
limited to:
○ Residency, preceptorship, and options after graduation
○ Facilitating interaction with practicing Naturopathic Doctors
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

MARKETING CHAIR
● Inform Bastyr community on campus and at BCNH of all Bastyr NMSA events
● Promote awareness through social media i.e. Facebook, Twitter and Bastyr NMSA

● Coordinate with chapter officers to assist in promotion of their events
● Work with Bastyr Student Council and the Bastyr NMSA Social chair to coordinate and
promote events
● Coordinate with National Vice President of Online Resources and National Vice
President of Public Relations

PHILOSOPHY CHAIR
● Responsible for communicating with the National Naturopathic Philosophy Chair
● Communicate and coordinate with the Bastyr Philosophy Club
● Promote Naturopathic Gathering annually
● Promote Naturopathic philosophy at Bastyr campus and Bastyr Center for Natural
Health
● Hold at least one annual event on Naturopathic Philosophy
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

GLOBAL HEALTH CHAIR
● Responsible for communicating with the NMSA National Global Health Chair
● Hold at least one annual event to unite the Bastyr community and to support global
health initiatives of naturopathic students and professionals
● Provide updates to Bastyr Naturopathic students regarding Global Health initiatives
including projects to increase student cultural competency
● Responsible for coordinating with Naturopaths without Borders and NDI to provide
updates regarding the current projects and trips.
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

SOCIAL CHAIR
● Support and assist chapter officers in the organization and planning of Bastyr NMSA
events
● Work with each Bastyr NMSA chapter officer and the Bastyr NMSA Treasurer to
ensure financial viability of their individual activities
● Organize an annual welcoming event for the first years ND students
● Hold regular fundraising events in order to provide each chapter officer with the funds
necessary to complete their required tasks
● Work with Bastyr Marketing Chair to promote Bastyr NMSA
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

SOCIAL JUSTICE CHAIR
● Responsible for communicating with the National Social Justice Chair
● Work with the Bastyr Queer Health Club and the Multicultural Club on local projects,
i.e. health disparity awareness, and community outreach
● Develop and maintain social justice information on the Bastyr NMSA website
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

RESEARCH CHAIR
● Responsible for communicating with the National Research Chair
● Promotion of the Daniel Leek Research Scholarship
● Inform the ND student body about Research opportunities at Bastyr
● Communicate with the Bastyr Research Club (currently defunct)
● Communicate with the head of the Bastyr University Research Department
● Provide information about research opportunities on the Bastyr NMSA website
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

LEGISLATIVE CHAIR
● Responsible for communicating with NMSA National Legislative Chair
● Keep track of Naturopathic legislative and licensing efforts for each state to inform and
update the ND student body.
● Communicate and coordinate with the Bastyr University WANP Representative and
the AANP Representative on a monthly basis regarding information and events.
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

● Organize additional legislative initiatives as recommended by NMSA National
Legislative Chair
● Act as resource for student members inquiring about licensure/other legislation in all
states (including maintaining campus bulletin boards)
● Responsible for updating and monitoring the NMSA Bastyr website regarding
legislative matters and updates.

NMSACup COORDINATOR
● Recruit and organize tryouts for new NMSACup team members
● Work with the NMSACup National coordinator and NMSA Bastyr Treasurer regarding
travel for the yearly event
● Organize and promote Bastyr NMSACup team
● Update and follow the established NMSACup recruitment and training timeline
● Be an active NMSACup team member
● Attend all Bastyr NMSA Chapter meetings

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIANS (AANP) REPRESENTATIVE
The principal duty of the AANP representative is to promote student AANP membership and
coordinate all AANP events at Bastyr WA.
AANP Representative Specific Responsibilities
(One year term beginning Summer Quarter and ending Spring Quarter)
● Promote student AANP membership
● Maintain communication with the Director of Marketing and Membership at the AANP,
NMSA National Legislative Chair, and the NMSA Bastyr-WA Legislative Chair
● The Representative to the AANP functions as a liaison between the Bastyr-WA ND Student
Body and the AANP.
● Representative must be an active member of the AANP and in good academic standing
● Attend AANP association meetings, including the yearly AANP conference, the annual
Leadership Conference and the DC FLI
● Act as a resource to student body by explaining the benefits of AANP membership and
conferences such as DC FLI and AANP annual conference
● Serve on the AANP House of Delegates as the student representative for Bastyr-WA
● Attend all Bastyr-WA NMSA Chapter meetings
○ In the event the AANP Representative cannot complete these duties the NMSA Bastyr-WA
Legislative Chair will act as the proxy.
○ In the event the chair is not able to attend a weekly meeting, a progress update email must
be sent (24 hours in advance) to the executive committee.

● In the event that no AANP representative is in place, these responsibilities are transferred
to the NMSA BUW President until the position is filled
○ In the event that funds are insufficient to send the AANP Representative to the
annual AANP conference, the NMSA BUW President will attend as proxy when the NMSA
Leadership Retreat is held in conjunction with the AANP conference.

*** In certain circumstances students have chosen to co-chair positions. We currently have 2
positions with co-chairs, Philosophy, and AANP Representative. Elections for all positions
are intended to elect one individual for each position.
