AHP.PA.R0059 Royal Liverpool And Broadgreen University Hospitals (Nhs) Trust Pharmacy Directorate Job Description Post: Pre-registration Pharmacist AFC band 5 Responsible to: Clinical Director of Pharmacy First Line Manager: Senior Pharmacist in Charge of designated section Overall Responsibility A one Year fixed term contract to meet the requirements of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain to register as a pharmacist by: a) Gaining appropriate training and experience in the provision of pharmaceutical services within each section of the pharmacy department. b) Demonstrating competence in the Performance Standards identified in the RPSGB Training Manual. c) Undertaking the pre-registration pharmacists examination. Duties and Responsibilities 1. To assist in the dispensing of prescriptions and the supply of pharmaceutical products including controlled drugs and clinical trial medication. 2. To assist in the provision of ward and clinical pharmacy services in line with the Clinical Pharmacy standards and implement local prescribing policies and guidelines. 3. To assist in the provision of medicines information and advice to clinical and other professional staff. 4. To assist in the sterile preparation of certain specified drugs including chemotherapy using aseptic technique. 5. To assist in the preparation of extemporaneous drugs. 6. To be familiar with and use the computer systems in operation within the different departments within pharmacy. 7. To participate in the competency based training programme as required by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. 8. To be responsible for self directed learning to support the collection of a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence. AHP.PA.R0059 9. To participate in quarterly appraisals with the pre-registration tutor. 10. To visit other hospital sites in order to gain broad training in aspects of hospital pharmacy practice – ie. the pharmacy departments at royal Liverpool university Children’s Hospital (Alder Hey), and the regional QC department. 11. To participate in a placement of at least two weeks within the community pharmacy setting. 12. To undertake projects to assist personal development and that of the Pharmacy Service. 13. To participate in clinical meetings within the department and to prepare and deliver short presentations for other member of staff as part of the continuing professional development programme. 14. To attend local and regional stuffy course organized but the Education Consortium/Health Authority. 15. To prepare for the pre-registration examination. 16. To be able to follow procedures, current legislation, regulations governing the Health and Safety at work act and COSHH. 17. To at all times practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. 18. To undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required. 19. To participate in Bank Holiday, Statutory Holidays, weekend, early mornings and evening services, as per department arrangements. 20. Together with members of staff, to ensure that procedures are carried out in accordance with current departmental procedures and legislation/regulations in respect of the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH and other pertinent recommendations are complied with. 21. To ensure that security is maintained at all times, including that relating to computer systems. 22. To ensure that total confidentiality with regard to the business of the Trust is upheld at all times. 23. To undertake any other reasonable duties which may be required. February 2012 AHP.PA.R0059 Persons Specification Pre-registration Pharmacist Essential Qualifications Desirable Vocational Masters Degree in pharmacy. OR Overseas Pharmacists Assessment Programme (OSPAP) PgDip or MSc Registered with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain for preregistration training. (Applicants may not have these at application, but must have them before commencement) Experience /skills Good understanding of pharmacology and therapeutics. Hospital and community pharmacy experience Awareness of current practice and policy affecting pharmacy practice in the NHS.
