ANNUAL TESTING PARISHES
FAT CATTLE can be moved to a Red slaughter only markets where the 6 Day Rule does NOT apply
and Orange markets where the 6 Day Rule DOES apply. Both markets WITHOUT pre-movement
testing.
STORE CATTLE must be pre-movement tested and the 6 Day rule applies (Pre-movement test lasts
60 days)
4 YEAR TESTING PARISHES
Cattle can move to any market without pre-movement testing
WEDNESDAY MARKETS are RED and ORANGE MARKETS, alternate weeks – started 14th
May with ORANGE MARKET
FEEDING COWS, STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS will be held on
SATURDAYS
We believe that this will be in everyone’s best interest and look forward to continuing to provide a
complete marketing service to all our clients.
The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB
breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:
a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30
days
b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from
your local Defra Animal Health Office.
Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to
update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

SHEEP EID
The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st January 2010

Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a
single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)
These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list
all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.
Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic
These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving
to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read
and recorded on behalf of the keeper.
Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information
within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding
Holding Registers:
1.
ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include:
farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31 st December
2009.
The recording requirements include:
 All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied
 All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

An excellent pitch of cull sheep forward today with just shy of 1100 penned.
Trade today would look slightly easier on the week though increased top prices were
achieved.
Top price today went to Messrs Shields who sold Continental ewes to £141.00.
Skinner Brothers sold Texels to £125, Messrs Strickland got to £122, Gary and Hilary Taggart
sold Continentals to £119.
First timer to Newark Messrs Barnes travelling from Rugby sold Suffolks to £120 and
Mark Crowder sold thick Suffolks to £115.
Also cull rams were good to sell, Mark Crowder sold Charolais rams to £130 and IPG Farms
sold Texels to £126. OVERALL AVERAGE £88.00

The Sheep Database & Movement Reporting
From 1st April 2014 the New Animal Reporting & Movements Service (ARAMS) came into
effect. This will see a move to the reporting of Sheep Movements online via
www.arams.co.uk – if you choose to do this, please print 3 copies. One for your records, one
for the Haulier and one for us!
We have a stock of the new Licences (similar to the old AML1) which are also acceptable for
Movements
ALL Movements MUST BE reported WITHHIN 3 DAYS OF MOVEMENT. If this is not done
electronically, it must be sent by post to:

We advise ALL SHEEP KEEPERS to check details such as you Full Address and Post Code(s)

Another very good entry of young bulls on offer today with the overall quality not as good
and more black and whites on offer.
Trade was fractionally firmer on the week, however still a mile below production costs!!
Top bulls today were sold by Robert Hutchinson who sold Limousins to 203.5p - £1133.50
with another at 199.5p - £1195.01, Jonathan Thompson sold Limousins to 201.5p - £1106.24
and 199.5p – £1055.36.
Top bull today was sold by John Holmes who sold Limousins to £1332.09, Kevin Johnson sold
Limousins to £1306.26.
Today E graded bulls sold from 191.0p with U+’s 186-190p and –U grades 180-185p and
R grades 168-178p with O+’s 158-166p.
Meated Holsteins 148-156p with plainer sorts 134-144p and horrors 118-128p.

A decent entry on offer today with an excellent top end quality.
Trade was again sharper on the week with cows looking very well sold against young bull
prices.
Leading the cows were long distance travellers Messrs DL Jones & Son, Lampeter who sold
Blues to 201.5p - £1529.39 with Blondes to 188.5p - £1432.60 and Limousins to 174.5p £12116.27. Tommy and Anthony Holmes sold Limousins to 165.5p - £1324.00, Kevin
Johnson sold Limousins to 156.5p - £1406.94 and 153.5p – £1330.85.
Today meated U+’s graded cows 175p plus with R grades 148-157p and O+’s 132-144p,
plainer suckled 120-130p.
Today black and whites looking very well sold with meated Holsteins 120-128p, plainer sorts
110-118p and very plain Holsteins 96-106p.
Not a great show of OTM clean cattle with Messrs RD Green, Brigg selling Limousin heifers
to 178.5p - £1222.73, Steve Noble sold Limousins steers to 181.5p - £1078.11.
The Natives led the way in the stock bulls with Messrs ST & JE Foster selling Herefords to
£1312.20, Messrs M & R Bettinson sold Lincoln Reds to £1239.55.

Not as many this week but some very decent quality at the top end, again a fair number of
black and whites.
Trade today was a good bit firmer with more buyers at the ringside and most definitely
much easier to sell.
Top steers today were consigned by Messrs DL Jones & Son, Lampeter who sold a
marvellous load of steers to 215.5p - £1452.47 for Limousins with others all around the
200p mark.
Henry Catlin sold Limousins to 211.5p -£1211.90, Richard Bee sold Limousins to 207.5p £1079.00, Mr A Clifton sold Limousns to 207-5p - £989.78 and 205.5p -£1115.87, Stan Evans
sold Blondes to 205.5p - £ 1329.59.
Today E graded steers 200-216p with U+’s 194-199p and –U grades 187-193p and R grades
178-186p, O+’s grades 166-176p and –O grades 158-165p.
Meated Holsteins sold from 144-154p and plainer sorts 133-142p and exceptionally plain
steers 118-126p.

A slight increase in numbers and an excellent quality show.
Taking top spot today was Melton Mowbray vendors Messrs WD Copley who sold 10 Gilts to
140p per kg or to £136 and averaged 133.76p per kg.
Messrs Rand Farm Park sold overweights to £121. First time vendor Messrs Brogan also sold
overweights to £138 and others at £132.
