WISER Social Sciences: Statistical Information Major data sources on OxLIP: ESDS International ESDS (Economic and Social Data Service) International provides access and support for a range of international datasets (macro and micro) and the NS Time Series Databank. The central aims of the service are to promote and facilitate increased and more effective use of international datasets in research, learning and teaching across a range of disciplines. Databases currently available are: OECD Main Economic Indicators, National Statistics Databank, Census Data Support Units, World Development Indicators (World Bank), Global Development Finance (World Bank), and United Nations Common Database. ICPSR – Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research ICPSR holds the world's largest collection of computer-readable social science data. In order to use this service you will need to create a MyData account and be connected to the Oxford network. UK Data Archive The UK Data Archive is a specialist national resource containing the largest collection of accessible computer readable data in the social sciences and humanities in the United Kingdom. Through these web pages it is also possible to search the catalogues of other national archives for computer readable data and to use the services of the UK Data Archive to acquire these data on your behalf. Source OECD SourceOECD is the online publications portal of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. It comprises 20 Studies by Themes, containing all monographs and reports; 24 periodicals online; some reference titles online; and the OECD statistical databases online. 1 Other OxLIP data sources: Emerging Market Information Service EMIS delivers news, company and financial data direct from more than 70 emerging markets in Asia, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It provides onestop Internet access to mission-critical information straight from the local markets and from over 10,500 publications, covering current news, hard-to-get company and industry information, financial markets data, and macroeconomic analysis. Updated daily, EMIS’s sources are categorized, archived, indexed and fully searchable via a customizable interface; the service supports 20 languages. Russian State Statistical Publications Designed to optimize searching and browsing of statistical data, Universal Database of Statistical Publications covers Russian- and English-language publications, reports and data sets from the State Committee of the Russian Federation on Statistics and the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Features searching within reports, tables and graphs, transliteration option, tables of contents in English, etc. Coverage includes: National and regional level socioeconomic indicators Statistical yearbooks and monthly analytical reports Annual statistical abstracts on national accounts, population, labor, public health, transportation, industrial output, and related socioeconomic measures. Trade Unions in Western Europe since 1945 As a supplement to the handbook of the same name, this CD-ROM provides data for further analyses of union movements in Western Europe. It includes some of the printed comparative time series and country tables in computerized form, as well as additional databases on major national union organizations and their membership development. Elections in Western Europe since 1815 This CD-ROM contains the election results of 18 Western European countries from the nineteenth century until the present time (the last published election). Results have been collected at the level of the single constituencies. The information collected concerns the electorate, actual voters, and votes for single parties or candidates and is available in absolute figures and percentages (percentage distribution of votes by parties and percentage distribution of party votes by constituencies). 2 The CD-ROM supplements the handbook of the same name by Daniele Caramani (please check OLIS for handbook locations). Central Statistical Office – 25 years of social trends The Central Statistical office is the government agency responsible for preparing the UK's national accounts, for the collection of data from businesses and for the compilation of a wide range of official statistics - including the retail prices index and the overseas trade figures. This CD-Rom draws together statistics from a wide range of government departments and other organisations to paint a broad picture of British society and how it has been changing. Financial Times Prices FT Prices on CD-Rom (which ceased production at the end of 1998) contains major UK and international indices and pricing data on bonds, commodities, currencies, European and UK equities, guilts and interest rates. Business data: Amadeus Pan-European Company Data Amadeus is a comprehensive, pan-European database containing financial information on approximately 8 million public and private companies in 38 European countries. It combines data from over 35 specialist regional information providers. Bankscope BankScope is a comprehensive, global database containing information on public and private banks. From August 2004 its coverage increased to 25,000 banks around the world. It combines data from the main information provider, Fitch Ratings, and 6 other sources, with software for searching and analysis. FAME Up to 10 years of detailed information for 1.3 million companies, plus summarised information for a further 1 million companies. FAME covers all UK registered companies including those that have recently formed and have yet to file their first set of accounts. 3 Osiris Osiris is a comprehensive database containing information on over 43,000 listed companies, banks and insurance companies, covering more than 125 countries around the world. As well as specific report formats for companies, banks and insurance companies, Osiris also offers reports that reflect accounting procedures in the major world regions. Both standardised and “as reported” financials are provided. Osiris brings together data from various sources; each IP is an expert in its region or discipline. In addition to the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and ratios Osiris provides news, ownership, subsidiaries, ratings (from all the top 3 agencies: 19 ratings are available), earnings estimates, stock data, additional industry codes (Dow Jones Global Indexes) and access to regulatory filings for US companies. In addition to the existing ratios users can create their own that can be displayed in the reports and used in searches and analyses. Wharton Research Data Services WRDS (Wharton Research Data Services) is a cross-database financial research tool, developed by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Individual accounts for WRDS are available for faculty, doctoral students and research assistants within the University of Oxford, and faculty can request the setup of classroom accounts for teaching purposes.
