KINETON HIGH SCHOOL A Specialist Sports College ICT & BUSINESS DEPARTMENT These are exciting times for ICT and Business at Kineton High School. The Department is innovative and enthusiastic, committed to providing the best possible opportunities and learning experiences for our students. In addition to this, we are committed to raising the profile of ICT throughout all departments of the school. We are a friendly and welcoming team, currently made up of three full-time members of staff and a range of other teachers from different departments who assist in the delivery of ICT at Key Stage 3. We are well-supported by a Network Manager and 2 IT Technicians. The department is well-resourced and enthusiastically supported by the Senior Leadership team. Programme of Study 2010-2011 ICT Business Key Stage 3 Students study ICT for one hour each week. Not applicable Schemes of Work are based upon the National ICT framework Key Stage 4 In September 2010, we will be introducing the OCR National Award in ICT, Edexcel’s new and exciting equivalent to 2 GCSEs. This qualification is based entirely upon coursework. We will be phasing out the Certificate in Digital Applications (CIDA) with Year 11. All KS4 students are required to study one hour of ICTper fortnight. We will be in our second year of teaching the new GCSE in Business & Communications (BACS) offered by AQA. This is proving to be a popular and achievable option for our current cohort of students, offering a good mix of both coursework and theory. Key Stage 5 The OCR National LEvel 3 is proving to be a popular alternative to more traditional A levels. This qualification is also assessed entirely through coursework. The GCE in Applied Business has proved to be an extremely popular choice at A level. Students are required to study a wide range of business scenarios in both the coursework (2/3 units) and exam-based (1/3 units) aspects of the course. We currently have 2 groups at AS and 2 groups at A2. Accommodation & Facilities Kineton High School has 5 dedicated computer classrooms. There are also PCs in the Library, Music and Design Technology departments. All PCs run the Windows XP operating system and the full Microsoft Office Professional Suite. However, we are moving away from the traditional Office-based approach to teaching ICT and use a wide range of software/hardware in our delivery of the subject. In addition to these facilities, and as part of the Warwickshire E-Learning Community Project, WE Learn, 35 of our classrooms have been equipped with overhead data projectors and speakers. These are driven by wireless sets/laptops which can be used to create an exciting interactive learning environment. As part of this project all students and staff have their own learning space. This gives them access to an e-mail account and learning space which can be customised to their individual needs. Learning Excellence for All
