Colonial Tri-Fold
OBJECTIVE: To create a tri-fold brochure that will fulfill state expectations in Goal One
which states: The learner will investigate the foundations of the American
political system and explore basic values and principles of American
democracy. 1.01 Describe how geographic diversity influenced economic,
social, and political life in colonial North America.
TASK:
This project is designed to help you better understand the development of
the American political system. You are to create a tri-fold that must
contain the following specifics:




A Creative Cover panel (include your name here)
A map of the 13 British//American Colonies (1 panel)
o Label colonies and one key city in each (be careful not to use
modern maps for this!)
Interesting / Miscellaneous Information Panel about each Geographic
section of the colonies (New England/Middle/Southern)
o Flags, mottos, songs, trivia, etc.
Independent Panels for each for the geographic sections
o New England Colonies (1 panel)
 List colonies of this region and when founded
 Major settlers (groups of people Ex. Puritans &
Pilgrims for New England)
 Main economic influences (with specifics) of the region
 if an agriculturally based economy—what types
of crops?)
 if manufacturing based—what products are
made?)
 Social structure (who’s at the top of society & who’s
considered the lower class)
 Main religion(s) of the region
o Middle Colonies (1 panel)
o Southern Colonies (1 panel)
