Tammie Klage Hi there everyone! My name is Tammie and I am a SLIS student in my 4th semester. At the end of last semester, I was officially certified to be a Media Specialist in an Elementary School. This Spring, then, I will complete my MLS degree in full. I am excited to be in this class! I took Information Inquiry and Electronic Materials online with Dr. Lamb, so I know we will have a lot to learn from her! Right now I am the assistant media specialist at Prairie Trace Elementary School in Carmel. In addition, I am a teacher at Huntington Learning Center. I have been teaching in various positions for 9 years. I began teaching in Yorktown, Indiana as a sixth grade teacher for 2 years. I was nominated for the Sallie Mae Outstanding First Year Teacher for the State of Indiana. I then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where I taught third grade for 2 years and first grade for 2 years at Oak Knoll Elementary School in the Fulton County School System. When I moved home to Indiana, I was the Science Lab Teacher at Mary Castle Elementary School for one year, and a third grade teacher at Harrison Hill Elementary School for another year, both in Lawrence Township. Finally, last year I moved to Carmel, and began my MLS program. I was an Instructional Assistant at Collegewood Elementary School last year, before moving to Prairie Trace. Here are some links to my professional materials: My Web Page: http://mypage.iu.edu/~tklage/TammieSite.htm My Electronic Portfolio: https://oncourse.iu.edu/access/content/user/tklage/Filemanager_Public_F iles/ElecPort.doc Dr. Lamb mentioned the pew article about the different types of technology users. I am not sure which one area I fit into. I use technology every single day, from my 3 email accounts, to my internet access at school, at work and at home, to Oncourse, to Onestart, to my palm pilot, to my jump drive, to my cell phone, to my IPod, to my digital camera, and the various creative software programs I use to create materials for my students, my colleagues, and my school. In these ways I consider myself extremely technology proficient. One thing I do not do, is I do not use the all in one gadgets. I have a phone, an IPod, a camera, and a palm pilot. There are 4 separate devices and I have really had no desire to get a more complex gadget that has all the features in one. I have never had a camera phone, I do not use my phone to get to the internet or play music, and I do not have a calendar built in to my phone. I see how it may be advantageous, but I just feel more comfortable with my individual components. Another place where I think I am not making the most of technology is my use of the web. Yes, I constantly use the internet to find information of all sorts, but I do not participate in any interactive web 2.0 activities such as my space, chats, face books, delicious, or the web second life activities. So… what does all this mean? I see myself fitting into the productivity enhancers category, or maybe even the connectors. Okay, so formal and get to the Between two that is enough about the professional stuff! Let’s fun stuff! I am very busy! jobs and Grad School, I do not have a lot of spare time, but I use it well. Of course, as you would guess, I like to read. I especially like to read materials for children. I have been hooked by Harry Potter over the past years. I was thrilled to complete the final book this summer! My last ”Grown Up” book that I read and was really “In To” was the Davinci Code. QuickTime™ and a QuickTi me™ and a T IFF (Uncom pressed) decom pressorTIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see t his pict ure. are needed to see this picture. I also enjoy art. I paint and I draw. I also do crafts and I am a new scrapbooker. Thanks to Dr. Lamb I have discovered electronic scrapbooks as well as the hard copy kind. QuickTi me™ a nd a TIFF (Uncompre ssed ) decomp resso r are need ed to se e th is p icture. Music has a huge place in my heart and in my life. I pl ay piano a nd I absol utely LOVE to sing. I sing with a band at my churc h. One of my favorit e special treats is to go to the theate r to see a good sho w. My most important pastime, though, has to be my fiancé. We are getting married next summer! Here we are together! We like to do so much together! We like to go bowling and I am learning to play golf. (Mostly because I do not want to be left at home every weekend in the Spring and Summer!) We go to shows together or to the movies. We go out to see the Indianapolis Indians, the Colts, the Pacers, and the Indiana Ice play. We also like to go to races at the Speedrome, O’Reilly Raceway Park, and of course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We go to museums and the zoo too! QuickTime™ and a TIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture. We have a great friend in our family too! This is Eli. He is an AKC registered Black Lab and we have raised him since he was a pup. He is also a “Ham” for the camera! My fiancé is the manager of a bar/ restaurant near our apartment. We spend a lot of our free time there. Although I do not drink at all, and he does not drink a lot, all of our friends are there and it is more like an extension to our home. We go up there to watch a good Football game or NASCAR race. We go up for poker night to play in a friendly Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament. He is trying to teach me to play pool... although I am not god at all! Here we are at the New Years Eve Party! My favorite thing to do at the bar, and actually how we first met, is to sing Karaoke! As I mentioned, I do not drink at all. I came into the bar the first time, just because I saw a sign for karaoke and wanted to try out singing. After a few visits on Karaoke night, he was off work one evening and came and sat with me. As they say, the rest is history and we have been together ever since! Now I sing at least a couple of times of week!! Here I am singing my heart out! Well, I am sure that you now know more about me than you ever needed! If not, here is a link to fun Kidspiration organizer I made in my class with Dr. Lamb last semester! https://oncourse.iu.edu/access/content/user/tklage/File manager_Public_Files/AllAboutMe.doc I am looking forward to getting to know all of you too! Good luck this semester, and I know we will have a great class!
