Telephone challenge
This activity will help your child to read and write whole numbers in figures
and words.
You will need a telephone book.
 Write the last five digits of your telephone number.
 Use the digits to make the smallest possible 5-digit
number.
 Ask your partner to make the largest possible 5-digit
number, using the same digits.
 Read your number in words, for example twenty-three
thousand four hundred and fifty-seven, while your partner
writes it in figures, for example 23 457.
 Then change roles.
 Use the telephone book to find some more 5-digit numbers and take
turns to make the smallest and largest number.
Record the numbers in the table.
