Pi is an irrational number because it does not repeat any digits in a specified sequence, and it
does not end (so far as we know!). The value of Pi is considered infinite.
Pi is the ratio of the distance around the outside of a circle to the distance across the circle going
through the center.
Pi is also a Greek symbol, part of the Greek alphabet, often used on college and university
campuses.
Pi is considered a CONSTANT value because it does not change regardless of the size of the
circles from which it is determined.
To recognize the importance of Pi, EXTRA CREDIT points will be rewarded (added to next quiz)
for ONLY ONE of the following:

3. LOCATING YOUR BIRTHDATE (not including the year) in the sequence of digits of Pi,
and indicating the location of your birthday digits. For example: If your birthday is March
23 (3/23), that sequence of numbers 323 is located at the 15th, 16th, and 17th digits (in that
order) in the value of Pi. WORTH ½ OF THE BIRTHDAY DIGITS TIMES

4. CALCULATING the value of the CIRCUMFERENCES of the United States Coins that are
circles by design. WORTH ½ THE NUMBER OF COINS TIMES


5. WRITING the RATIO of the AREA of a circle to its CIRCUMFERENCE as a VARIABLE
expression (like a formula). WORTH 2 times
